I'm headed out to the carribean in a few days and was wondering if anyone has used Carnivals luggage express? Any problems using this service?

When we return from our cruise we dont have to be to the airport till the evening, leaving us with about 6 hours to wonder around Miami. I'd like to use this service to get my luggage to the airport so I dont have to haul it around with me.

Thanks,

We've used it twice and plan on using it again on our upcoming cruise next month. We used it for the opposite reason--had an early flight and didn't want to stand around waiting on our luggage and then have to stand in line at the airport to check it. It seems that each ship goes about it a little differently. On the Liberty and the Victory, everyone with Luggage Express met in the forward dining room at 8 a.m. (or those were the instructions--we ended up having to wait on a couple of people who thought the rules didn't apply to them--grrr), and we were all escorted to the front of the "ding" line together. The qualifications for using Luggage Express vary from home port to home port, too. We've only used it in Miami. Your flight can't be too early and your airline has to be participating. You'll get the info in your cabin amongst a bunch of papers, so be on the look-out for it. You have to return the registration form to the customer service desk by a certain deadline which will be outlined in the paperwork delivered to your cabin. We think it's a great service for $20 per person (plus whatever your airline charges for baggage fees).

I don't know how it works now but when we used it we had to get on a bus with the other luggage express people and go to the airport.

I know if you use luggage express you are not allowed to book a ship sponsored excursion for whatever reason.

Do you have to accompany the luggage to the airport? It was my understanding that I just left it with the ship and they would haul to the airport, check it in, and I picked it up at my final stop??

AZmike480

That is what we did. The last time we did it about a year ago.

We put our bags out the last night and didn't see them again until we got to our home airport but all the luggage express people met in a lounge and got escorted to a bus.

Like i said I don't know how it is now but that was the way it worked when we did it.

One time we did it our luggage got pulled for a random inspection so had to go to customs while they rooted through our bags and then we were escorted to the bus.

No, you do not have to accompany your luggage to the airport. Leave it outside your door and pick it up at your final destination. Great service!

That's good that they changed it. I could never understand why we had to go to the airport or why we couldn't do an excursion when we did luggage express.

We plan on using it on the Liberty in January. Do you know why they make everyone meet in the dining area? Seems silly, and not what it says on the Carnival website. I planned on a leisurely breakfast, and then off to the airport via taxi at around 9ish. We also have FTTF so can get off whenever.

Used it on the Dream in July. It was a dream. I left my luggage outside my room the night before and saw it again at my destination. No problems, but it tends to be a little rougher on the luggage so I would only do it with very sturdy bags.

I'm going to try using it on the Liberty in December, it would be nice to leave my luggage hop in a taxi and check out miami for a couple of hours. I'd hate to sit at the airport from 9 to 6pm to wait for my flight!

Kona,

If I remember I'll post my experience of this when I get back from my cruise.

I have no idea why they have everyone meet, other than the rep was adamant about physically leading the group together to the front of the line to debark the ship. Maybe there were problems with others thinking you were jumping line or whatever. Meeting in the dining room wouldn't be bad except that both times (first on the Liberty and then this past April on the Victory), they kept waiting for people who were late, which was holding up everyone else who read the instructions and followed them. We finally made our complaints known because some had early flights. Still, they kept calling these people's names who were late over the intercom on the Liberty and kept us waiting. Finally, these 2 older ladies showed up and said they still weren't ready to go because someone else had their carry-on luggage, LOL. We all just stood up and said we weren't waiting any longer, and they led us off. Don't know what happened to those ladies.

I don't know how they do it on the Glory, but we'll see next month. I didn't know that on some ships they just let you leave on your own until reading it here on CC.

Thanks. Our plane doesn't leave until 12:30, I'd rather wait on the ship a bit than go straight to the airport but I guess we'll do what we need to. It will be nice to be checked in and not have to drag our luggage with us.

Would love to use this service in January. We have a late flight out of MIA.

Can anyone answer this question:

There are five of us in the cabin (mom, dad, and three kids). If we have, say, three bags, can we just do luggage express for two (2+1) or three (1+1+1) people?

This is great to know! We have a late flight (6:00pm-ish) coming back from our Sunshine cruise in December and would love to spend some extra time exploring New Orleans.

My family of four packs light and we manage to pack all of our stuff in two bags--do they charge by the bag for the Luggage Express service or by the number of people in the cabin?

When we did it we only had 1 bag but they made us pay for 2 since the second person needed a boarding pass. We were on Southwest so didn't want to wait til we get to the airport and get the other boarding pass in the C's.

I would imagine if you are not on Southwest you could pay for the 2 people and get the rest of the boarding passes at the airport.

They do not offer LE out of New Orleans. But we are going to try this private service.

I used this last August at Port Canaveral. It was great.

Luggage Express

Airline and Luggage Check-In Service

Carnival offers a convenient airline and luggage check-in service to our guests at select ports and/or ships. Currently, this service is offered at the following:

Debarkation Port

Ships

Port Canaveral

Carnival Dream

Port Everglades (for FLL/MIA)

Carnival Freedom

Miami (for MIA/FLL)

Carnival Liberty / Carnival Valor / Carnival Glory

Carnival Destiny / Carnival Breeze

Tampa

Carnival Legend

Seattle

Carnival Spirit / Carnival Miracle

Rather than check in at the airport for the return flight, eligible guests may choose to participate for just a nominal fee of $20 per person in addition to baggage fees that may be required by the specific airline for checked luggage. Guests will receive both their airline boarding passes and their luggage tags while they are enjoying their vacation at sea. Better yet, they will only need to place their checked luggage outside of their stateroom and will not touch it again until they claim it at their final destination.

Applicable to all guests with proper travel documentation

Only a maximum of two bags per guest can be checked-in

Applicable on most major domestic airlines – guests will need to check on board for participating airlines as they are subject to change.

Flights must be on a participating airline, departing from the airport on the same day of debarkation

All flight destinations may be available including Canadian and International airports. Note: For ships from the homeport of Seattle, flight destinations are to the U.S. only

The Luggage Express Program cannot be used for those guests purchasing a post-cruise shore excursion.

Early in the cruise, eligible guests will receive an invitation to participate in this program. The guest must complete the registration form and sign it to authorize the fees to be charged to their Sail & Sign account and then drop it off at the Guest Services Desk. The day prior to debarkation, airline boarding passes, luggage tags along with a letter are delivered to the stateroom. Guests place the tags on the luggage that will be checked in and then place it outside their stateroom for collection. On debarkation day, participants may debark at their convenience.

The luggage will be transferred from the ship to the corresponding airline and flight. Guests must claim their bags upon flight arrival at their final destination. If there are any delays or problems with their luggage, guests need to contact the airline to report any problems.

  • 2 weeks later...

We just got off the Dream on the 23rd and used it. We flew Air Tran (booked through Southwest) and had 2 checked bags. Because SW allows 2 free bags per person we only did luggage express for one of us, saving us $20. When my husband checked in at the airport for our flight we had adjoining seats already assigned. My only concern was if my bags would meet me in Atlanta. They did. We virtually did self assist off the ship. Got up, ate breakfast and when ready lined up to get off the ship. We were off the ship in minutes. No meeting a group/shared bus ride etc.

Hoping to use it in the future if possible.
