CAS perks

I have a question for the CAS experienced cruisers. I have not sailed NCL since 2007 so all of my past points or perks are gone. On our October Breakaway cruise I accumulated 13800 points and was awarded another 5000 for a total of 18800, hot level. I know my "real" point number for perks is the 13800. I am now going a Feb Breakaway cruise and being comped a mini suite. I will make Golden on the first night on this cruise and lets say at the end of the cruise I have 25000 points.

My question is when I reach the Golden level will I be offered multiple comped cruises for the following year? Or do the comped cruises depend on each previous sailing. If I take a cruise in June and only earn say 2000 points, will I still be offered comped cruises for that year?

Comps are great and I try to accumulate points, but if dump 10k the first night, I am pretty much done for the cruise and if I lose it quick, I will not earn many points.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Our experience has been that the cruise offers really vary pretty wildly. My guess is that a lot depends on what ships and sailings CAS is trying to fill, and what they're working on with your local casino, or the casinos where you play.

We have cruised steadily for a while, and gotten lots of offers, and then cruised steadily and gotten almost no offers. We're consistent gamblers on our cruises, always accumulating substantial numbers of points, always at the highest CAS level, yet that doesn't seem to bear much relationship to the offers that come in...sometimes they're great offers, and sometimes they're awful.

What works best for us is to use our local casino host/marketing rep, and have that person contact CAS on our behalf when we want to cruise. We've always had a positive response from CAS that way, usually with a decent offer on the cruise we want.

Good luck to you!

Just as an aside, You won't actually receive most of your Golden perks until the cruise after you make Golden, so it doesn't matter if you make it the first night or the last. I made Golden on my last sailing, and got no additional perks, not even the upgraded drink card, although some have been given the better drink card and nothing else.

As far as how your next comp will work, I don't know if anything has changed. CAS has consistently based your next comp on your last sailing (or another basis sailing if you have more than one in the books without a comp), but if you are a high level player, there are always exceptions. Plus, you will be offered other sailings, in a specific time frame, etc, when they need to move cabins. I currently have two sailings booked (based on two basis sailings) and continually get emails from my CAS reps to book more sailings, as it's that slow time of year. I don't know what would happen if I underperformed on a sailing, I haven't done that so don't know for sure, but CAS can be pretty fickle.

If you don't mind my asking:

- how did you get awarded an additional 5000 points?

- how much was taken off your bill for the 13800 points?

Last year on the jewel we had $150.00 taken off for earning about 2500 points, this year on the 11/3 sailing if the breakaway got $27.00 off for earning 2700 points- made no sense at all and when I questioned it- the response was "well, did you win"...

Once you hit 5000 points you are automatically awarded and additional 5000 which goes towards your final bill reduction. So the extra 5000 will get you and extra $50 off.

I got $400 this cruise. I was given and additional $212 off. I should have got $188 off($10 for every one thousand points).

As far as you only getting $27 off because you won, thats BS. I guess it all depends on who they are feeling that day. On a cruise in 2005, I had my entire bill of $4700 taken care of(I paid for alot of things for my family of 23). I also walked off the boat with $36k more than I came with, so the losing thing does not make sense in this instance. I guess they wanted me back to have a another shot at getting their money back.

The question they asked was the key.... if you have big losses, they can comp-off more dollars.

The extra 5000 points is a tier-bonus. It's basically worth approx. $50 off the on board charges.

It also makes a big difference on where you stand amongst all tracked players on your particular sailing. Your 2500 points on the Jewel may have placed you much higher on the list than your 2700 points on the Breakaway, which is notorious for attracting higher level players (think big fish, small pond vs small fish, big pond).

Also, it is dependent on how much and what you charged to your onboard account, although this only makes a difference for persons who charge very little. They can only comp you as much as you charge of eligible charges (things like casino cash advances and service charges, etc, cannot be comped).

The bottom line is, you are eligible for $25 in onboard credit for 2500 points (and $1 for every 100 points above that), any amount credited above that is a bonus completely at the casino manager's discretion.

Thanks- I guess it's better that we won!! First night out - not even an hour into playing my DH hit for $700.00 and 20 minutes later I hit for $1440.00!

Are these points gained by playing the fruit machines or on the tables?

When I last cruised for 14 days my 'rated play' was rubbish. I got a very small amount of my bill even though I played for a good few hours everyday and a fairly good bet every game. Lots of passengers complained it was very bad comps etc.

I understand that this new system is better.

The amount of comp off your bill is completely in the control of the casino manager. They can be stingy or they can be generous...apparently they have guidelines, as discussed, but they can go above or below if they want.

You'll always get the best tracking playing the slot machines. This is because the table play depends entirely on the pit boss observing and rating your play. If he or she is busy/in a bad mood/doesn't like your looks...whatever...your play gets underestimated.

Further, there's not much incentive for them to rate your table play accurately...where are you going to take your business if you don't like it?

On the other hand, slot play is tracked by computer. No human error.

Agreed..while the dealers and bartenders (staff in general) were very friendly all the time and on a first name basis with us- the casino management was not..at all. I was answered with an attitude from the start, not the same experience on the jewel last year, we were comped a dinner from the host/manager and the $150.00 off and believe me- we didn't spent a ton of money..or at last not compared to what I've read. We lost about $3000.00 on the jewel.

Any way to know how many points I earned on my last sailing?

Just send the general CAS e-mail address the question. I had a random question a few days ago and didn't want to bother my CAS rep, so I e-mailed them. I threw in the 'how many points did I get on my last sailing' as well just so I'd know. They sent me the answer in less than 10 minutes. Nice to know exactly how many I need to get to the next level on my upcoming comped cruise. So close!

What ship was this? I had a similar experience on the Breakaway. Attitude right until the last night. I made an effort to meet management during my week on the ship, ask about our comp dinner, etc, and she seemed to avoid players like the plague. I had earned roughly 12,000 points or so that week and when I asked about what my final OBC was, the manager said that I didn't get any, as I would have needed to make at least 2500 points. I asked her to please check again, that I was well over 2500 points. She said she would check when she "had time" and she huffed and puffed until she finally checked and came to give me an answer while rolling her eyes. No apology, no nicety, nothing. For this reason alone I have no interest in sailing that ship again.

Was that Danica? (I think) Tall, bottled blonde?

I've sailed with her 2 or 3 times, and have found attitude each time.

Had a Maria on Breakaway she was HORRIBLE. Had Maria Marc on the Gem. She was great. All depends on casino host, but they really can set the tone of how u feel in the casino. My dh agrees with Robin and didn't like breakaway casino....that why we back on the gem

Safe sailing

I was on the Breakaway as well- it was probably the same person! Attitude all week and no interaction with players at all...she seemed not to want to be bothered at all!! I would sail again only for the dealers and other casino staff..they were all great.

I thought is was just me and not for the fact that I could not hit the side of a barn door, but just did not care for the Breakaway casino at all. We sailed this past June. To me everything was odd from the management, the layout, and the machines. Servers and bartenders were great. But I loved all the other aspects of this ship, and for this reason sailing on her again in 2015 with a CAS aft balcony comp on a 12 day Caribbean cruise. Probably will be my last comp for awhile as I don't plan on spending much time in that odd casino.

Just recieved an invitation to tournament with a few dates to choose from. We're already

sailing on Apr 23 in a comped mini suite so most of the dates were not doable with my work schedule. Did have option for July to bermuda on Getaway. Have done Bermuda 4 times but have not been on any of the new, large ships. Called and offered an inside. If we opted for balcony would be over $2000 !

An interesting aside, the future cruise was originally offered as only a dsicount. Called back a few days later and got the comped mini. Swear they have a dartboard and whatever it lands on is what you get !!

Hi all... Just wondering if anybody has complained or told the "higher ups" about the casino manager on the Breakaway. If enough of people complained possibly her attitude would change or they would replace her. Thinking about sailing on the Breakaway for the first time soon & we spend alot of time in the casino. The majority of the time we have had great casino staff and not liking the reviews on breakaway..
