You paid $1750 for a mini suite that you occupied by yourself on the Breakaway! How did you get such deal! I never heard of the Breakaway being less than the Carnival Splendor! Please reveal your secret. (Unless you slept with someone to get it. LOL)

I was originally sailing in a studio cabin, and decided that since it was my birthday, I would upgrade to a balcony cabin. It was within 4 days of sailing, so when I called, I could upgrade to a balcony guarantee for $300. They just happened to place me in a minisuite.

Even taking that into granted, for a solo traveler, the interior rooms on the Splendor for a week around that time are running over $2100 for an upper/lower, while the Breakaway is $1400 for a studio. And Bermuda is SO much nicer than any of the places that the Splendor is sailing to.

Bermuda is the best cruise port I have been to so far. It really is an amazing place and the Breakaway is a lovely ship.

P.S. I see your first cruise was on the Fascination; mine was also! She is not the most beautiful ship but she turned me on to the world of ocean travel. :D

Bermuda is my favorite, too. It was so refreshing to arrive and not be confronted with hawkers as soon as I got off the ship. I loved being there for three straight days, since it let me get to know the island better. I felt extremely safe there by myself, too, and it was so easy to get around. I wouldn't recommend traveling there during Cup Match, though, as the entire island basically shuts down (but if you do, you can get some great pictures of quaint empty streets). This year, Cup Match is the last day of July and the first day of August.

We did Bermiuda a couple of years ago and really want to go back. Still very surprising to me that Carnival and Bermuda have not come to an agreement over berths.

I agree wholeheartedly. When we were booked on the Splendor as a gift, I was very disappointed that we were going to be sailing on Carnival. Our experience changed my mind about Carnival, 100%. If I want to go to an amusement park, I'll go to one on land. If I want to ice skate, I'll go to Wollman or Rockefeller Center in the winter. If I want to rock climb, we'll go to the mountains and hike. I have zero desire to mix Disney and cruising, so a big no thank you to DCL. I also don't want to pay for those amenities to be offered if I have no intention of using them.

People obviously want those things, and that's fine, but Carnival doesn't offer that right now, and there are likely enough people out there that are like us that also don't want that either, and that is plenty to keep Carnival afloat.

Beautifully stated. I cruise for the cruise experience...I have no interest whatsoever in the rock climbing wall, zip lines, skating rinks et al. I loved the Splendor when I cruised her this past May...had a wonderful time...doing exactly what I like to do: watching the ocean, waking up early & going out onto my balcony to see the sunrise, reading on deck, & eating & having a drink, playing some in the casino, being entertained by a good comedian...the list goes on & on!

I didn't find the Splendor to be "tired" at all. Was it my favorite decor? Not really...but she was clean & in good shape. I don't cruise for the decor either, lol.

I'm happy though, that Carnival has expanded into some new & different ports with the Splendor...so I look forward to St.Kitts & Antigua next October. For the time being, I'm delighted with PC, Nassau & Freeport in a few weeks!

Which is why I booked the Breakaway for May...I'm way overdue for a return cruise to Bermuda! ;)

I'm with you -- the cruise is the vacation and I like the cruise experience more than the ports. It would be nice to see Bermuda or St Kitts but the main attraction is being at sea. If I can go twice on the Splendor for the price of one Breakaway cruise I will take two cruises. That said, I would like the Splendor to cruise to Bermuda instead of New England & Canada in the Summer of 2015. It would be a good move for Carnival and would get me on board. I am looking forward to sailing the Splendor with you this January. It will be a great cruise. We got a nice group already on the Roll Call and it is still 5 weeks away.

NCl, Breakaway you have to pay to see some of the performances too?? they dont nickel and dime you to death lol! p.s. sushi was free on the splendor.

The night they have the entertainment that you pay for isn't dinner included with that?

If you are on Splendor you have a datk night or 2 in the main theater.

Just dont book the dinner theater and count that like a dark night in the theater and it works out the same as a CCL cruise.

I do not recall any "dark" evenings in the main theatre last year on the Miracle. There may not have been a production show but there was always some entertainment in the theatre each evening. I'm sure the Splendor will offer something each night as well.

Hi just off the Splendor, there is plenty of food and a tasting bar, but no sushi.

Still a great cruise!

Late 2014 NCL Breakaway, RCCL Quantum, Carnival Splendor. Doesn't sound like a level playing field too me. Carnival better step up to the plate or kiss NYC goodbye from an competitive point of view.

Priced the Splendor and the Gem for 2015 for 4 of us. 8 day eastern on the Splendor, 9 day eastern on the Gem. I can get 2 balconies on the Splendor for $4000 or a balcony and an inside on the Gem for $6100. Sounds competitive to me.

Even with those low prices Carnival is pulling out!

I wonder if they will replace the Splendor or just do NY seasonally?

I also say seasonally at least for 2015 (Vista coming in 2016).

No way CCL is going to give up the cruises to Canada, low fuel and always packed solid....just what ship will they bring here in April 2015 is up in the air.

What kinds of fares were they getting for the Canada cruises? Were they deeply discounted or did people pay a premium for these cruises?

Sailing full doesn't mean much unless you consider the fares paid.

I guess Carnival realized they can't compete with the quality and safe brands so they will retreat to Florida and continue on their new plan of offering dirt cheap cruises and cutting costs at every corner.

Carnival has decided to temporarily retreat from New York due to stricter EPA regulations in 2015. Carnival will continue to evaluate the situation. Carnivals remains committed to serving guests in the New York area, so this decision may come at a shock to many. Carnival will most likely return once the scrubbers are installed on the ships.

I don't believe that Carnival will be gone permanently as alluded to by the poster above, the question is which ship will take her place until the Vista gets there in 2017.

You may not realize this but there are indeed federal laws that apply to promoting your company publicly. You have to declare that you are an employee of said company with every post.

Ex: An employee of Best Buy wants to post something about Best Buy on Facebook about how Best Buy extended their return policy. At the end of the post on the employees personal FB page he/she would have to mention that he/she is an employee.

The troubling thing about you is that so many of your posts are robotic, canned and dry. Almost like a bot is doing the posting.
