Thinking of renewing our Vows… Anyone done this?

You know...you can "renew" your vows on your own...you don't have to spend a penny! Hubby and I have been together for 40 years....we "renew" our vows constantly. Yeah...it's a good party...but you're already married...don't spend any more than needed to do what you've already vowed to do...which is to love each other forever.

We did this to celebrate our 25th anniversay while aboard the Carnival Glory. If I remember correctly it set me back about $350 or so. It was money well spent. I surpised my lady with a proposal in Freeport with diamond earrings. The Captain preformed our ceremony that evening after sailing away. We had 6 other family members with us on this cruise including my wives father who got to walk her down the aisle. Mad brownie points for me.

We thought about it a year or two ago. The website prices "start" at 595.00 and all they mention is a "ceremony", music and a certificate. Seems like a lot of money for not much. We decided we're happily married anyway and could think of more fun things to do with 600.00:D

We looked into it..very briefly. The RCCL web site states it starts at around $600 and is performed by member of the "activity" dept. Times could not be guaranteed,

I then looked into having it performed shore side and contacting a local clergy at that stop. It was more affordable, but if the ship misses the stop you still pay.

Ended up renewing on land with our Pastor and friends!

Congratulations on your upcoming 10th anniversary! Friends of ours were married on Magen's Bay on St. Thomas ten years ago through RCI, (Royal Romance) and it was perfect. If you'd like to check the info on the cruiseline's site, here's a link: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/weddings/home.do?cS=NAVBAR.

Click on 'View Our Wedding Packages', then see Renewed Romance (you can renew your vows either on the ship or depending on itinerary at a private island). Or the Royal Devotions package includes some extras for about twice the price.

You would need a copy of your marriage license for verification- there's a one year marriage minimum for vow renewals. (That is waived for the Symbolic Ceremony).

We renewed our vows on the Independence last February. We did the full vow renewal package. To us it was worth every penny spent. I was hesitant to do it but DH really wanted to. We did a bracelet exchange in place of the ring ceremony. We bought island hook bracelets online from St. Croix. I started out looking for a long beachy dress and ended up with a wedding gown. DH didn't see the dress until I walked down the isle. We used our original vows and I rewrote them to fit a renewal. Royal was absolutely fabulous through all the planning! The cruise director performed the ceremony. The $600 is for more then just a little ceremony. You have a wedding planner, flowers, your ceremony, certificate, champagne and strawberries and we had two photographers. We had dinner at Portifino's and they brought us a beautiful cake. Everyone one the ship made us feel so special. It was so much fun and so romantic. I highly recommend doing it. We are in such a different place in our life and this renewal had a different meaning to it. I say do it! You will not regret it.

We renewed our vows last March but chose to do it before the cruise on the beach with a specialist that only did this type of ceremony. It was much more reasonable in our opinion then what we would have done on the ship and still created a very memorable moment. Each couple is different and no matter how you share your vows it will be a special time in your lives.

Hi -- There seem to be some very hostile comments here about vow renewals. I don't understand.

Anyway, we renewed our vows in 2009 on the Celebrity Summit for our 50th Anniversary. It cost about $600 and was worth every penny. The captain was the officiant and we used the vows that the ship provided. They were very well-written (obviously written by a professional) -- talked about the "ship of life"; there were flowers, champagne, beautiful bouquet, music, etc. Where we live, just to rent a plain hall for this costs over $500. The event coordinator on the ship met with us and the ceremony was on the day we left Santorini. Talk about romantic!

If we get to our 60th anniversary, we may do it again.

Agree with you Margee! Lotsa unnecessary negativity...

We renewed on the Grand Princess for our 25th anniversary. The Captain officiated in the ship's chapel, there was a champagne reception afterward, flowers for DW, and a nice portrait. Can't remember the cost, maybe $200 or so, but it was a few years ago. It was a great experience and I recommend it to any couple.

Regards

Chuck

Does a marriage license expire? Renewal of vows...is that like renewing your drivers license? Call me lame, but I don't get it. Especially at $600. WOW!

That's what my DH always says:rolleyes: I personally think it would be nice to do.:)
