CasinoCruzGirl Posted December 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2013 Hi Question.....I received a voucher for a "free cruise" from a casino. Obviously we had to pay taxes and fees and also upgraded to a Balcony cabin. Today I noticed the price for a balcony has gone down $100 (50 pp). Because we got a much cheaper rate from the casino do you think if I call we can get OBC or upgrade to a suite?

CasinoCruzGirl Posted December 10, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted December 10, 2013 well the answer is nope. Since we are paying only $610.01 per person for a 7 night cruise out of NY on the Breakaway we cannot get OBC or upgrade to a suite. She said if I can find a rate better than $1220.02 for 2 then Yeah they will do something but no way in hell I will find a better rate than that. Was worth the shot. Cant wait to go. spidybabe Posted December 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 10, 2013 Many times I watch the prices drop and the hot/last minute deals, then turn to my husband to tell him to call, then I remember ... That's right, we got hugh discount thru the casino and are NOT paying near the advertised price. Somehow I always seem to forget that! luvcruzing Posted December 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 10, 2013 My question to GeriC is how did you get through to CAS in five minutes? The last two times I called, I waited on hold for 45 minutes before an agent came on the line.
lljalbert Posted January 3, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2014 I would like to tag on to this with an additional question. My mom is a CAS player and we will using a "free voucher" to go on the Breakaway in March. There is still a lot of availabilty on this cruise and was wondering how you determine the amount it would cost to upgrade. Not sure what the actual cruise cost was just what was paid in port charges and taxes. Do you just wait until 30 days out and call and see what the best price for a balcony is....or is there a formula? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!! I usually ask what the full price would have been when I book so I can see if prices go down and I check the website every few weeks at the beginning to see if theres been a drastic drop in price. I leave on 1/11 and I have my eye on a cabin Id love to upgrade to so I will be calling every few days to see if they can give me a good price. The worst that can happen is you say no thanks not low enough.
garycarla Posted January 3, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Price to upgrade? Hard to say. I believe that CAS "buys" rooms from the ship at a reduced price. That price will move around often based on the sales of rooms. If the ship is not near bull, then the CAS folks will offer better deals. Ship is full, less of a deal. Supply and demand. lljalbert Posted January 3, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Great thanks. I checked the monitoring site and know about what was paid based on the date and have setting tracking...can't hurt to check for price drops and then ask. Like you said worst they can say is no...and its not like I haven't heard that before!!! Wish us luck!!!!

ch7012 Posted January 3, 2014 #16 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Any time I have called CAS to upgrade I have always been quoted the same prices and have been told that it doesn't change regardless if the ship is empty or full. Last cruise I called weeks in advance and again the day before and still the same. Good luck. Maybe you will have different results.
Sheils65 Posted January 3, 2014 #17 Share Posted January 3, 2014 We were comped a 1 night cruise to nowhere on the Gem for March. I paid 183.44 for 2 for taxes and fees for an inside. The price when I booked the inside was $199, I noticed the price went down to $54 for the cat I was given. I called and was just inquiring to see if taxes would go down but explained to me on here and with CAS that the taxes aren't based on cruise price but they gave me an upgrade from inside to a port hole OV....that was nice of them. They did tell me that they normally don't do upgrades. But I took what they gave me and ran!!
