Would like to upgrade to balcony cabin

Booked an ocean view cabin for the end of Jan. , however considering an upgrade to balcony. Currently there is a 600 pp difference. When would it be likely that Celebrity reduces the cabin prices prior to sailing date?

If there is a good inventory of unsold cabins then there may be discounts offered but they will mostly likely be guarantees and might be on Tuesday special which is valid for new bookings only. If the inventory of unsold cabins is low and if Celebrity forecasts it will sell out then they might increase the price of cabins if the demand exceeds the supply.

My guess: If your cruise is only 4 to 6 weeks away then it is already a few weeks past final payment. I'd guess that if Celebrity was going to do some serious discounting to clear out their remaining inventory of unsold cabins it would already be underway.

Not much you can do at this point other than take what's offered or continue to check prices, and specials, daily.

The biggest price cut on our recent TA on Infinity was just 4 weeks out. However, it was the suites that they created the guarantee, becoming cheaper than the C.C.

I know someone who upgraded to a guarantee suite and they were put in the Royal suite.

The reductions for January are happening now. The Reflection sailings have been from only $100 difference to none bet. OV and veranda, but supply and pricing different for a 14 day or whatever you have. As Larry mentioned, check the prices with any discount you qualify for. After final payment there may be substantial senior or state discounts that dont show up on first pricing page. That's what we found in Nov for our Jan cruise.

There have been very substantial discounts for a sailing leaving today, and on Monday I helped a friend by calling Captains Club, who then checked with the Resolutions desk, and upgraded their three cabins from inside to AQ. This was a unusual situation of a large supply of inventory less than a week before sailing, but the moral is..know the inventory and keep checking the pricing right to sailing.

Blimey, we were on the cruise before this one, and thought we'd done well to be given a Celebrity suite :)

Given you are past final payment date it may be more difficult than you think. We've looked into this in the past and here is what we have been told:

1) Any upgrade will be based on the original or current price of your current cabin (whichever is lower) compared to the current standard price (no promos that apply to new bookings only) assuming of course you are booked in a cabin that already doesn't have some sort of restrictive rate.

2) If your current booking has any promo tied to it (shipboard credit, 1,2,3 Go, etc) you may lose that promo depending on the category and offer of cabin you are looking to bump up to.

All that being said, we have looked at doing this a couple times over the years and have always found it too expensive. It doesn't hurt to try however.

Enjoy your cruise regardless of what cabin you are in. Remember, as long as you are on a cruise it's all good!

These types of decisions, and us giving advice, are very subjective and personal, especially when it comes to pricing and is something worth it.

As many do, we started cruising with a Oceanview SRs but on a11N cruise decided to move to a Balcony.....and never went back. Once we experienced having a balcony to enjoy breakfast out on it; sitting reading out on it; just stepping out for a quick 'lean on the rail', we always book one.

As to cost. You are not eligible for most of the special discount price drops. And it's just a complete guess if you'll see or be eligible for a lower price later. You are past final payment so those that were considering dropping their reservations have done so, so the Line knows what their final inventory is.

my personal, very subjective recommendation is, if you can afford the current cost to upgrade, go for it.

And do not, I repeat, do not then keep checking the price to see if you'd have done 'better'. There is always someone on that cruise who paid less, or at least will say so.

Enjoy your cruise in your current lovely SR or on a balcony. Both are on a ship that is taking you out to sea and to interesting places.

Just to state an alternate view:-

We started cruising in '09 on an 11 night Med cruise in a hump veranda cabin on the not very old Solstice.

Since then we have cruised OV.

Why? We found we spent little time on the balcony preferring to be out and about socialising and could use the money we saved to go on snorkelling or zip lining excursions.

Just my view on why OV cabins are a good choice.

Cheers, h.

Sent from my little machine that knows way too much about me.
