Smallfamily Posted December 25, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 25, 2013 So on our recent eclipse cruise a nearby table had shrimp and scallop skewers every night for an appetizer. We asked for the same and our waiter (who had both tables) said I don't know how they are getting them it's not available. He said maybe they preordered or had a family connection?? Anyone know how they did that? Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
pris993 Posted December 25, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Generally, if you want something special you need to talk to the Matre'd. That is the way it works on most cruise lines. Celebrity is not as good at responding to special requests, they are more likely to do as you waiter did and act likely the don't know.... that this is possible. We are elite on Celebrity, also elite on Princess and cruise HAL, Cunard and NCL presently.
pris993 Posted December 25, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Another thought, they may have high rollers in the casino - once we were on Crystal, a table next to us had all kinds of special orders and someone from the casino showed up nightly to make sure they were well taken care of, obviously for a good reason. A Sixth? Posted December 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 25, 2013 .....and someone from the casino showed up nightly to make sure they were well taken care of, obviously for a good reason. Because they were winning? :p:rolleyes:
Smallfamily Posted December 25, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) Thanks good to know, I thought maybe a high level suite. we are elite with celebrity but never thought to make a special request (and oddly the woman at this table wore the same hooded sweatshirt to dinner every single night) Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app Edited December 25, 2013 by Smallfamily

Bailey & Sophie Posted December 25, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Because they were winning? :p:rolleyes: Who was winning...the couple or the house?
Crazy Cruzer Posted December 25, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Because they were winning? :p:rolleyes: I don't think they care if a player is winning or losing. They know the odds are in their favor and all they really care about is how big the bets are, how often you bet, and how long you do it during a cruise. They're very confident that as long as you do it for a long enough period, with enough money, they'll keep what they always do.
cynbar Posted December 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 26, 2013 It's possible someone at that table had a dietary restriction and required special items. But it's also possible they merely spoke to the maitre d' in advance about special requests. Others have reported they did this successfully, although I don't remember any talk of shrimp and scallop skewers. Has anyone been refused a special in advance request?? fishycomics Posted December 26, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 26, 2013 We were lucky, our waiter had tea waiting for us after the third night, and knew I liked the shrimp cocktail, he had double portions some nights. Guess its the luck of the draw.

We've seen this as well. You can usually request some items in advance. We always requested a sorbet "intermezzo" after the App. & before the main course. You should be able to get Shrimp Cocktails on request as well. Waiters who feel additional tips are coming will usually help grant requests. If they do, then yes, tip them additionally!
