hellsop Posted January 1, 2014 #51 Share Posted January 1, 2014 I'd agree with this. Also, why pay for it on the ship when you can get in Cozumel during the cruise. Mmmm.... La Choza...
Bowman26 Posted January 1, 2014 #52 Share Posted January 1, 2014 It might make some money for them in another port but I don't see it making much off Texans  I wouldn't pay that much for Mexican unless it was jumbo shrimp and goat dishes or something really exotic. Just seems like a bit much for a Mexican place but then I never considered Mexican to be fine dining. Great food at a good price is more like it. Good food doesn't have to cost a lot. This past week on the NOS 6 out of the 7 nights I went to the MDR the food was pretty good to me. Bo

gordito Posted January 1, 2014 #54 Share Posted January 1, 2014 Mexican cuisine is not only sophisticated, but associated specifically with many parts of Mexico; fish dishes from the Gulf states, moles from Oaxaca, pork meat from Michoacan, great steaks from Sonora and Chihuahua, etc. If the new restaurant really is going to serve THIS kind of mexican dishes -- and not ANTOJITOS as tacos, burritos and nachos -- $25.00 per person is a real value!!!!!!! Herb  (Mexican and technical foodie) Picture of Mole Poblano -- in this case with chicken...
dfishner Posted January 1, 2014 #55 Share Posted January 1, 2014 If it is Gourmet Southwestern Cuisine it might be worth $25. In Fort Lauderdale, Eduardo de san Angel and Canyon would be in that category and they are always busy. Dinner for 2 is over $100. Rita's is so mediocre that it would seem a mistake to try to repeat anything Mexican for an upcharge. We must of had a mind meld LOL I was thinking of those two restaurants when reading this both restaurants are higher price and the cuisine is amazing. If Royal is going to do something like that then it is worth the money.
walcherw Posted January 8, 2014 #56 Share Posted January 8, 2014 Perhaps the menu will be similar to Topolobampo, Rick Bayless' gourmet mexican restaurant in Chicago. That would be worth $25!! Hello..Can you please explain what gourmet Mexican food is ???? And why Chicago would have better mexican food than Texas???? Thanks Woody

DJZS Posted January 9, 2014 #58 Share Posted January 9, 2014 Don't forget t Portofinos was around forever and then Royal Caribbean opted to add Giovanni's. There's room in the world for more than one Mexican specialty restaurant onboard :) And portofinos is being replaced by giovannis because Giovannis performs better. Ritas is one of the, if not THE biggest specialty restaurant flop on royal.

Samba's is not doing as well as expected, either, at least not on Radiance. :)
lady_cruiser Posted January 9, 2014 #60 Share Posted January 9, 2014 :pI guess we will be saving $50 because I don't care for Mexican Food. My sister lived in San Antonio for over 27 years and I can honestly say in all that time I did not go to one Mexican Restaurant. Beside being from Louisiana I prefer true, authentic Cajun/Creole dishes.

Cajun - the food with the more legs the better:eek::D Worth pointing out that Mexican and Tex-Mex are not the same thing. SULROSS Posted January 14, 2014 #62 Share Posted January 14, 2014 I held out hope that they would still put a Park Cafe on NV, but it doesn't look that way now. Thanks for the info. Don't know if you got your question answered, but there will be a Park Cafe in the solarium area on the Navigator.

Yes, the original upgrades listed a Park Cafe. I really hope it will be there because I LOVE the Park Cafes. However, the new deck plans don't show it. I had lunch with the Hotel Director on the TA in November. He said there wasn't going to be a Park Cafe. He also added that they aren't always told everything. I hope he had wrong or incomplete information.
Alyrica Posted January 14, 2014 #69 Share Posted January 14, 2014 Yes, one of the helpful Casino Royal ladies was telling me last week that there would be a Park Cafe after the refurb. Since it wasn't on the deck plans or the list of innovations on the Navigator page I thought she might be misinformed. It would be awesome if it is true. I've read such wonderful things about the food!

CruzinSuz Posted January 15, 2014 #72 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Well, they said there was going to be in the very beginning, but I just looked at the decks and don't see it anywhere. Big disappointment if it's not. We love it, beats the WJ by a long shot. At least we've got the ship here year round, so I'd better not complain!:D
stewpapa Posted January 15, 2014 #73 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Hahaha $50 for Mexican food? Authentic or Tex Mex doesn't matter. We have 5 Mexican restaurants in our town of 6000. Not on your life!
constantcruiser Posted January 15, 2014 #74 Share Posted January 15, 2014 For several weeks I've been trying to make reservations for specialty restaurants on our Feb. 5 cruise (the first after drydock), but the only restaurant that comes up is Chops. Yesterday I gave up and called C&A, and I was transferred to a department called "On-Board Dining" which I assume is in the corporate office. I was told by a Supervisor in that department the reason I can't make reservations for Giovanni's, Isumi or Sabor online is that they aren't scheduled to open until the first sailing in March! Her excuse was that, although the new specialty restaurants will be added duriing drydock and construction should be complete before our sailing, "it takes time to train staff to work there." Really? I told her I didn't think it was fair for these venues to be shown on the deck plans starting February 1, if they already know they won't be open for the another month. That leaves Chops as the only available specialty restaurant for at least 4 sailings, but you can be sure the prices aren't discounted for those cruises. Grrr.... lrn2cruise Posted January 15, 2014 #75 Share Posted January 15, 2014 To me it's sad to see a Mexican restaurant on any ship sailing from Galveston. We Texans are very particular about our Mexican food. We all have our favorites which no other restaurant can compare. When sailing I want food I can't/wouldn't get at home. Oh well... Same thoughts. I was thinking YIKES!!!!! Coming out of Texas? OMGoodness! I hope they know what they are doing! Hubby is not big on paying for food once on the cruise, so dont think he will eat there. Will be interesting to see
