Triple Play Chips Are They Worth IT?

I recently completed a cruise on the Gem this past December. I was informed by casino staff that new rules were implemented regarding Triple Play Chips on November 30. On prior cruises triple play chips were sold for 10 dollars and you received 3 chips with a bet value of 5 dollars . The chip was placed as a bet, if you won you received a 5 dollar chip and the promotional chip stayed in play until either you tied or lost your bet. Now the rule is if the triple play chip is placed as a bet even if you win, tie or lose the chip is taken by the dealer. So are the Triple Play Chips worth it to buy any more?

No way is it worth it now. It only works for you if you lose. Let me explain, if you start with 3 regular $5 chips, it costs you $15 to start. If you make 3 $5 bets and lose 1 and win 2, you will have $25 left, netting a $10 win. Now if you start with 3 $5 promo chips, it costs you $10 to start. If you lose 1 and win 2 you will be left with $10, you break even. The only way is if you lose all three bets. With regular chips you lose $15, with the promo chips you only lose $10. The old way if you won, you kept the promo chips, so say you won 3 hands, you would have $15 in regular chips plus the $15 in promo chips to still play with. Shame on NCL for doing this, they are actually charging you for free bet chips which are always given away as perks at every other casino I have ever been to.

No. No longer worth it. That doesn't even make sense. Why would they take away a winning bet. I'll ask about that again on Sunday, 'cause it sounds odd.

thanks for checking to find out if it is fleet wide policy, because in my opinion the triple play chips are a bad investment.

It wasnt this way on the Dawn in October. I also heard prior to sailing that if you "pushed" on blackjack you lost the chip and pit boss on the dawn said that absolutely wasnt true. Seem to be different rules for different ships.

Wasn't that way for us on the Star in October either. HOWEVER the OP said it started NOVEMBER 30.

Sorry for digging this old thread up, but we're always told to use the SEARCH function, which I did ! :)

Since we've booked a quickie on the Sky for later this year, I was looking for info on purchasing the triple play chips again (which I get every time, even though they've been the kiss of death)!

On the Sky a few years ago I was using one and was dealt a blackjack. The dealer was showing an ace and asked if I wanted even money. "No thanks", I told them. They (can't recall now if it was a he or she!) took a look and flipped a ten.. then proceeded to take my triple play chip - saying that I only could keep it on hands which I WIN. That was confirmed by the pit (and I felt somewhat cheated).

Now, since they don't stay in play even when you win, I have no interest!

Oh well... another change for the (NOT) better!

Tom
