getting on ship at first port of call

Has any body ever got on the ship at the first port of call because they missed the ship due to bad weather. Wondering if Carnival refunds money for the missed portion of the cruise. Leaving Saturday for the Miracle and the weather report isn't the greatest we do have insurance and are leaving a day early but just curious what would happen if we had to catch the ship in Cabo.

If the weather is bad from your home airport you might want to try and get out the day before if possible. Your airline may waive a change fee if they are expecting to shut down the airport the next day.

Cabo is a tender port i believe so that would be an interesting start to the cruise if you have to catch the ship there.

Good Luck and let's hope you don't have to implement any contingency plans.

It is my understanding that the cruise line will not allow you to board in some foreign ports unless mechanical issues with transportation, which you will have to provide proof. Same thing with insurance, they will not cover loss unless you provide written proof.

I will call Carnival and ask if we would miss the ship due to weather if we can catch it in Cabo

We are expecting snow and freezing rain tonight and our flight leaves early Saturday morning.

We are going to look in to a back up plan just in case.

Thanks for the well wishes

It has to do with the Jones Act---or whatever it's called for passenger ships.

When you leave the States, you must stop at a foreign port before you re enter the states-the only exception are the cruises that are round trip in Hawaii

You may be referring to the PSVA. The Jones Act relates to cargo ships.

In any case, the PSVA would not affect the OP's ability to meet up with the ship in Cabo. That would only affect them if they tried to board the ship at a different US port, turning the cruise into a "one way" or open end cruise.

Since you also mention Hawaii, that's not true either unless the ship is registered in the US. That's why NCL's ship is US registered. It's the only way they can do a 7 night intra-island cruise in Hawaii without visiting a foreign port.
