When did Carnival change it's tender process

Here is the tender notice we received on our Splendor cruise last August. This was not new to us.....

I honestly looked for tender info on TV and on the Fun Times. We were in no hurry... We waited an hr after tender started to go and still needed a ticket. It is a sticker with a number. They allowed 3-5 numbers to walk down the 4 flights of stairs at a time. My 1st HMC trip so I will know next time.

We got caught by surprise too when we arrived in Grand Cayman. How was I supposed to know you needed a tender TICKET and that the tender wait was over 2 hours!! This was our first Carnival cruise. I went to the person handing out the tickets and told them that, it was our first Carnival cruise and I never had to wait for a tender so they let me go with the next group. We had a private excursion that we would have missed if we didn't get off that ship!

 

From what I read to do now is get a tender ticket, go to breakfast when you are ready to get off the ship use the ticket for the next tender group off the ship, providing your tender number hadn't been called.

 

Wait a minute. I'm just wondering but how can this be your first Carnival cruise when your signature line says you were on a Carnival cruise in 2011?

We reached Platinum status on our cruises last January. We only had one tender port, Grand Cayman. We were in no hurry to get off the ship so waited a couple of hours. When we finally went down there was still a really long line for the tender, but I didn't think about going up to Guest Services to be walked back down to the tender.

 

This year we have 3 tender ports on our B2B - Half Moon Cay, Belize, & Grand Cayman. I will definitely make sure we go to guest services first.

He was not the original poster - the 2011 cruise is the one he was referencing, I believe (his 2012 cruise had no tender ports).

Actually they did communicate it pretty well. It was in your fun times the night before as you said. They also announce it during different events the day before. Guess we always research which places we dock and where we tender. Don't go to the beaches everyone else goes to!:o

 

I just got back from a 5 day on the Victory and was shocked that we had to get tickets for the tender. I was on a cruise last March and don't remember the process. I saw it in the Fun Times, but thought that must be for the people who have FTTF or excursions booked.

 

It went fast enough but had I known ( the communication was less than stellar) I would have gotten our butts down to theatre earlier. There was 1 chair on Half Moon Cay by the time we got there and 700 people were still waiting behind us.

Got tickets on the Pride in 2004. I remember we got up early to be close to the first to get off. Got up showered, ate, and then our port stop was cancelled due to rough conditions.

Last yearin Grand Cayman our shore tickets stated to be on a tender 30 minutes before tour departure. Since we had FTTF we walked down to guest services and they walked us to the front of the tender line to get off the ship. We did not have to go get a ticket for the tender any where.

It might be just the way they do it at HMC, because I don't remember them doing it that way when I was at Grand Cayman

 

We had to get tender tickets for Grand Cayman when we went in August last year.

think this may also have something to do with the bigger ships. more passengers mean bigger lines

My 1st carnival cruise with a HMC stop. I have been to Disney and RCL private island. Both did a better job than Carnival.

When I joined in 2010 one of the common pieces of advice handed out to new cruisers was to go early for a tender ticket if you had an excursion. If not, you could wait till the crowds died down and get on without a ticket. There was also something about platinum and those with Carnival excursions getting priority or something, but I didn't pay enough attention to that part to remember it.

I just know that based on that advice, when we sailed the Dream we had a tender port and went to the designated area half an hour early and got tender 1 or 2, but when we sailed Conquest we purposely went later after the initial rush and didn't need a ticket.
