Late April Mediterranean

We have done this time of year for the last several years. You may need a windbreaker or a light fleece some days. It is usually a little cool to sit out by the pool although better mid to late April. We love April because it is less crowded.

Looking at a 2015 Mariner cruise for late April. Will that be too early to enjoy warm, not hot, weather?

Good to know.......we're probably looking at the same one! Thanks for posing the question. We had the same one!

April weather in the north-west of the Med can be quite cool and very changeable but generally speaking the further south and east you go in the Med, the warmer the weather. May would be a better bet for warmth!

April is one of the most difficult to predict months in the Med. :D

I can see that I'm going to overuse the word 'usually' in this post, for emphasis!

Western Med, usually April can be quite cool-ish and breezy with showers.

Eastern Med usually in April has slightly higher temperatures than the west. It can be rainy and stormy though.

I feel fairly safe in saying it's not usually hot in April, especially in the west.

Best guess, temperature in mid 60's to low 70's, with a few showers and possibly quite breezy. That said you could have wall to wall sunshine or cool, wet and windy.

I agree that May is usually a delightful month, especially for the eastern Med areas.

Thank you everyone

We are looking at the April sailing leaving the 30th

Basically Venice to Rome

Of the 3 May Med cruises we have taken, two were in pleasant warm dry weather, one in cool showery windy weather - so it's a bit of a lottery! That's why we're booked in June this year ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

We actually did Barcelona to Venice from 4-14 Apr last year and found the weather in southern France to be particularly cold and windy for this Florida boy. However, the weather for rest of our cruise and two week post cruise travels, (Italy, Greece, and Croatia) was incredible with lots of sunshine and mild weather.

Add the fact that April is a shoulder month for travel and you should hopefully be more than OK.

We did the Med. the past two years -- around the 22nd of April and the other in May. We had beautiful weather both times (no rain - maybe we were lucky). It was actually a bit warm in Venice and beginning to get crowded (but not as crowded and miserably hot as it is during the summer).

Think you'll love that time of the year on your cruise:)
