Casino Question

I've seen posts on this forum about casino points earning free drinks, OBC and other perks. I never gamble in the casino, but my SO is gold status on Carnival, and a big gambler. He was somehow not aware that there are casino points. When I told him about it, he called Carnival to see what his casino points balance was, the person he spoke with said they had no idea what he was talking about.

Am I confused about this? Are the points only collected during the length of your cruise and not cumulative? Thanks for your help!

The Carnival employee probably has no knowledge about how the casino is RUN because the casino on Carnival ships is a separate entity operated by a separate firm not connected with Carnival.

There is a club, I think called the PLAYERS CLUB, that one can join probably at the casino. You get so many points for scoring this or that and in some cases get FREE drinks for the rest of the cruise if you hit a certain level. I only play the HOLD'EM poker table and not the slots so I'm not sure how that works.

It is called the Oceans Player Club. I do not know the number. He would be signed up with if he put his S&S card in the machine while playing it. If he did not do that then he is not a member.

They do have a number, I am sure someone will post it for you. You can also log onto the Carnival site with his VIFP number and then look under My Offers and see if he has any special Casino offers.

Ah, that makes perfect sense - didn't even think about it being run by an outside company. I found the phone number, so I'll have him call. Thanks!

To get free drinks he needs to accumulate 1500 points in a single cruise on the slots. Table games are followed by the Pit Boss.

He can call Ocean Players Club or check his VIFP account under special offers to see if anything is available.

Hopeully someone will chime in with the number.

Also look on the Casino board.

As others have said if you are playing slot machines and have your card in the machine it is accumulating points. For every 1000 points you are awarded $10 cash back, you can download it to the machine you are currently on or wait until you move to another machine. It will continue to ask you $10 Cash Back 1=yes, 2=no until you've accepted the money.

On a 5 day cruise you only have to get to 1000 points to get the On Us card for free drinks. On a 7+ day it's 1500 points. Once you get to one of those levels you take your S&S card to the casino cage and they will give you the card and attach it to your lanyard. You need to display it for the bar waiters to recognize that it's a free drink.

You still sign a receipt but it has a $0 balance on it.

If you also have the Cheers program make sure that your drink is run up under Players Club and not Cheers otherwise it will be counted against your 15 drinks.

You can only get a drink while you are playing in the casino and lately it's been taking about 20 minutes for a bar waiter to even take your order and at least another 20 minutes before he returns with your drink.

I reached "drinks on us" status  on day 3 of our 7 day Conquest cruise. I never had to go to the cage. I just stopped one of the slot attendants and showed him that I had reached 1500 points and he took care of the rest. On the Conquest, I found the drink staff to be very attentive (I was also tipping for each drink). They took very good care of me and deserved each tip they got. ;)

Well, the charge ticket does say a $0 balance, so guess what. That means the wait staff gets $0 tip. So tip them and they will return.

We just got off the Conquest in November and found the same thing. But I am sure all wait staff would be "Jonny on the spot" if you tip them good. I had one little girl returning to me every time my drink was half gone. I was tipping her a $5 chip each time and never had to wait for a drink. That is still half price of regular drinks and was worth every penny.

Sometimes people can be so cheap. You want service - then expect to pay for it.

The bar waiters do get the tips from the "On Us" drinks. But tipping them even $1 extra makes them much more attentive and eager to bring you another drink.

How is playing tracked at the tables? We played roulette and I gave them my sign and sail card as I heard I should but he just immediately set it on the table without looking at it. We play roulette and other tables every cruise but never gave them my card before this cruise.

Most of your questions have been answered.

Points do not carry forward to your next cruise, only good on current cruise.

For slots, you get 1 point for every $2.50 placed at risk, your money or theirs.

For tables, generally you are not rated unless you are betting minimum of $25 per hand, and in Casino 3-4 hours daily.

That has been our experience on all of our cruises while in the casino. We've always had the waiters ask us if we wanted another drink well before we finished the previous, and certainly never waited long. At least at night, seems there are more bar waiters in the casino than people ordering drinks.

We of course do tip them, regardless of whether we're paying or the casino is.

Were you playing $25 per spin? Usually you won't be rated at table games unless you play a minimum of $25. Not always the case, as my wife often has more cash at the cage waiting for her when we cruise, and I play $25 minimum craps, and she plays $5 roulette (at least that's what she tells me! :)).

One thing I have found, generally speaking, the nicer you are to the casino staff, the more liberal your comps.

The pit boss will take your sign and sail card and track your play. For the On Us program, on average, they are looking for a $15 wager per hand for 3-4 hours per day. Since there is no points for table games, it is up to each pit boss to determine eligibility. What you wagered on the Pride that earned you On Us status may not be enough to earn it on the Breeze. Depending on the ship and how busy the casino is, most pit bosses will not even fart in your direction for less than $10-$15 per hand. My first cruise, I played about 20 hours of $5 Let It Ride and the pit boss never even acknowledged my presence. Do not expect anything if you are playing minimum table limits unless you spend the entire cruise in the casino and/or become friendly with the dealers and pit boss, which in that case, the pit boss may offer you one free drink. Rare, and while I personally have never had or seen it happen, it does happen from time to time.

For comps/discounts/free play/etc. through the Ocean Players Club for future cruises, they are looking for a $25 wager per hand for 3-4 hours per day.

The waitstaff does get a tip even on comped drinks......and I also tip $1 per drink in cash.........but my experience is that it is taking longer and longer to get your drinks........I almost always see them taking at least 8 or 10 drink orders before heading to the bar to fill them........then by the time they return and actually track down the person that ordered the drink it can take quite awhile........

On my last cruise on the Magic, there were only 2 bar waiters in the casino until after about 10pm.......they said the others were in the dining rooms giving bar service.....

That is good to know!!! We will be on Conquest in April and we love to spend time in the casino!!

Our last cruise was an 8 day one on the Freedom. By the seventh night, most of the regulars had the drinks on us card. It took forever to get a drink because of the amount of people that qualified for it. One of the casino hosts told us that he had never seen that many people that qualified for the free drinks.

As okgirl said, they would take quite a few orders before they would go back to the bar and by the time they came back with your drink, you may have moved to a different machine and they had to look for you. I don't know how they do it but they always did find you eventually.

Not sure this is true. I was told by casino host the 1st time I got the drinks on us card that they get a tip on what the drink would have cost; same 15% as if you were being charged. That's why when you ask for a drink, they bring you top shelf or higher priced wine.

I have had them bring me a drink every 15 mins; even w/o asking.

I DO tip at some time during the cruise; but if the casino host AND the Ocean Players Club are to be believed; the waitstaff ARE getting tipped.

An extra tip hasn't hastened service or lack of tip slowed it down, in my experience. (just my honest assessment of the situation)

They will not turn down an extra tip and "they" will not understand the question if you ask them if they get tipped on free drinks.

Nobody would serve in the casino if they didn't.

Call the Players Club.

This isn't the 1-800 # I call; but this is what the website says:

For Carnival Cruise Lines, please call 1-866-299-5859.
