Rare Terre Posted February 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Okay, I know I've seen a list of ship's codes on CC before, but I can't find the search feature anymore...anyway, we heard the codes Bright Star and Seraphim on our recent cruise. I think Bright Star means a death (medical emergency for sure), but I don't know what Seraphim means. Anyone know the codes?
hightownCO Posted February 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Bright Star is an extreme medical emergency. I haven't heard of Serephim before but will guess that's a death. Serephim is a type of angel, I believe.
pansieFL Posted February 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Bright Star is an extreme medical emergency. I haven't heard of Serephim before but will guess that's a death. Serephim is a type of angel, I believe. Here is what I found: Main Entry: ser·a·phim Pronunciation: \ser--fim, -fm\ Function: noun plural Etymology: Late Latin seraphim, plural, seraphs, from Hebrew rphm Date: 12th century 1 : an order of angels — see celestial hierarchy 2 singular, plural seraphim : one of the 6-winged angels standing in the presence of God
sjn911 Posted February 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2014 (edited) I would bet it would mean a change in the emergency...that the soul was indeed with the Seraphim...or getting close..that it was a super pronto medical need... Never heard it before either in ship/sea lingo... I think they are still working on the search function... Here is an old image of them, they are a group of angels with six wings as well put in previous definition... close to God... https://www.google.com/search?q=Seraphim+images&client=firefox-a&hs=lOh&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=np&tbm=isch&imgil=DjiFeuz2wy-lmM%253A%253Bhttps%253A%252F%252Fencrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com%252Fimages%253Fq%253Dtbn%253AANd9GcQRhDfvaY6zHEJ_LKPQpd536B4vZh1y5bt4p1e2Ux56I54yjohz3g%253B382%253B450%253Bahr7KD3L0Y98dM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fen.wikipedia.org%25252Fwiki%25252FSeraph&source=iu&usg=__SxVq3I3toJIKoLggPofSyPU9pHY%3D&sa=X&ei=O3L_UpDyNYKFogT57YCYCQ&ved=0CCkQ9QEwAA&biw=1525&bih=695&dpr=0.9#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=DjiFeuz2wy-lmM%253A%3Bahr7KD3L0Y98dM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fupload.wikimedia.org%252Fwikipedia%252Fcommons%252F1%252F1f%252FSeraphim_-_Petites_Heures_de_Jean_de_Berry.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fen.wikipedia.org%252Fwiki%252FSeraph%3B382%3B450 Edited February 15, 2014 by sjn911

Lerin Posted February 15, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2014 Actually, that is an urban legend. That's what I was thinking. On my last cruise they announced "bright star" twice. Really if you think about it, it doesn't even make sense that it would be a death on board. Why in the world would every member of the staff need to know someone on board died? Just call the doctor and leave it at that. I think it's more of a drill for certain groups of staff. Perhaps a fire drill.

I've heard a fire drill before but it was "this is a drill alpha team alpha team alpha team..." etc.

Rare Terre Posted February 16, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted February 16, 2014 The seraphim code I heard was "Seraphim, seraphim, Lido deck by the pool" I figured someone must have fallen or gotten hurt. I've never heard the code seraphim before. The bright star was just bright star, bright star and then the location. A few years ago someone posted on the boards the whole list of codes and I printed them, but can't find them now.
TwizzlersAddict Posted February 16, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I found this thread that refers to "Sierra Team" that is a call for a stretcher. http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1515973
Rare Terre Posted February 16, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted February 16, 2014 Hmmm...it could have been Sierra Team, but it was pretty clear seraphim. The bright star code did not begin with operation, just bright star, bright star. This is going to drive me crazy.
RWolver672 Posted February 16, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2014 I found this but it still doesn't answer the OP's question. http://kalisiak.com/cruise09/?page_id=
Rare Terre Posted February 17, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted February 17, 2014 Thanks, Dick, that helps. I've heard the Bravo, Bravo, Bravo before, too. Maybe what he said was Sierra Team as someone else mentioned and it just sounded like seraphim. Thanks everyone for trying to find the answer for me. jamesr3939 Posted February 17, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 17, 2014 They called Bright Star with deck location on our Dream cruise in January. I asked our waiter at dinner and he said it's a medical problem.
Muumuu Posted February 19, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 19, 2014 We were on a cruise with friends and they had their teen son with them. While at dinner we heard a bright star called. Very shortly a ship officer came to our table to advise their son was injured. He was the bright star. Ended up ok.
djhsolara Posted February 20, 2014 #17 Share Posted February 20, 2014 When I've heard it they say "bright star, bright star, bright star" and then the location followed by "bright star, bright star, bright star".
