NoName Posted February 17, 2014 Author #26 Share Posted February 17, 2014 Like another poster, I wonder if once you exit the ship and are "zeroed" out...if by law you are NOT allowed to reboard? I know that those pax on back to back cruises need to exit the ship to "zero" out the passengers from the previous cruise. They are not allowed back on til the ship is "zeroed out". It would be nice IF the law would allow you to reboard and find "lost" or "left behind items" but once you leave the ship, I think you are out of luck. I have been wondering if there was some type of law that prevented them from helping me. However, I read in one of the previous posts that they escorted a guest back on board to pick up their watch....so I am leaning towards company policy versus federal/state regulation. Once your card is dinged out at the end of your cruise, for security reasons, you are not allowed to re-enter the ship without going thru customs again.... Please let us know if they have found your wallet.. I'm thinking that there is a good chance that they not only found it, but with everything in it too... However, more likely it sounds like you ended up with someone who was not willing to go the extra mile to help. Then that might have to do with Customs regulations outside Carnivals control, port authority jurisdiction. BUT, Carnival could have certainly dispatched someone immediately to check and report back. Immediately after disembarking the ship, I realized that I left my wallet in the safe. Despite, waiting at the terminal for 1.5 hrs, they informed me that my wallet "wasn't there" and handed me a guest services card. I was told that they will not even know if my wallet was found or not until they receive the "lost/found" shipment from the ship and that usually takes 2 to 2 1/2 weeks from debarkation! So, here is an simple way to improve Customer Service....how about the lost & found department on the ship communicate with guest services on land REALTIME.........that little bit of effort would go a long way with this cruiser! It would say, "I realize this is an important issue to you, and therefore, it is important to Carnival as well". I am amazed that after 9 days that can't even tell me if my wallet was turned in or not. I would feel so much better just knowing that it has been turned in and they are just waiting for it to be returned. Good Luck My friend hadn't cleared customs yet but had "dinged" through the exit and had just crossed the foot bridge when she realized she forgot her watch. There was a Carnival employee nearby with a radio who must have asked permission to escort her back. I guess the big difference is that she did not go through customs. I actually did check the safe over carefully the night before...even picked up the cloth on the bottom to make sure nothing stayed behind. I then locked my wallet back in for the night as we were going out.........In the morning, I picked up my purse, checked all the drawers and walked out. I should have noticed the purse was much lighter than usual....but I was also carrying bags so didn't notice Did you not have your passport locked up with your wallet? I hope they find it for you. The steward found it and immediately took it to Guest Services. They flagged his card and when he tried to debark he was told to go to Guest Services for a lost and found item. He got his IPOD back and they cleared his card and he was able to get off. DH and I have a system - each of us pulls out every drawer and checks every closet and the shelves in the bathroom. We also each check the safe and pull out the grey mat on the floor of the safe as things have been known to slip under there. Only after each of us has completed our checks do we get off. Thankfully, we haven't left anything behind in over 50 cruises. Same system that we have. Sparky2 Posted February 25, 2014 #44 Share Posted February 25, 2014 I wouid have been frantic......And YES....they should have done a little more.....we are 53 and 55.....we recheck and check each other.....the safe when we have taken our cruises is always left open when we leave so we KNOW we didn't leave anything in there.....good luck....shame on them....they could have been heros.....instead they were zeros....keep us posted... I assume the safe wasn't left open when she left or she would have realized her wallet was still in there. The room steward cannot access the safe if it's locked. I had to pay for the shipping to return it to me, but it is now on the way. Also, I should note that the money in the wallet remained intact. However, they explained to me that the money has been removed and that Carnival will mail me a check in a couple of weeks for the cash. I think this shows that there are still many, trustworthy people in the world and my thanks to Carnival for employing some of them! All in all, I am very happy with this ending. It shouldn't have taken so long (it took 18 days to get confirmation that they had my wallet), but all's well that ends well............... I thought of you and your post yesterday, when a poster ( Skymaster? ), posted that he had left a special hat with many pins attached on board and figured he would never see it again, yet after about a month, Carnival did send it to him. I was thinking that sometimes the system does work, albeit slowly at times. now you have a good ending to your Liberty cruise after all.
