E-Cigarettes on Carnival

Has anyone had any experience with e-cigarette use on Carnival. I know the official policy but I was just wondering if this was enforced. As a former smoker who now hates the smell of cigarettes I don't relish being forced to go to smoking areas. Feel free to make this a referendum on E-Cigarettes as I know so many of these posts become. This is a public forum and you're entitled to your opinion and I mine:) However, I am looking if anyone has first hand experience using them onboard

I'm still trying to figure out my plans for the Fantasy, but I'll be taking my esmoke. There is no way I can go near the smokers, the smell doesn't offend me yet, it's only been 4 months, but I don't want to be tempted. I was a hard core addict and trying to salvage my health. Mine don't look like a real cig, so that should help out somewhat.

I returned a week ago from the Liberty. My sister used the e-cig discretely, without any problems. She never went to a smoking area to use it. She did not attempt to use it in the dining rooms, nor the show rooms. She used it in our cabin and all outdoor venues without a problem.

No MDR for me either. I keep mine on a lanyard so I don't break it in my pocket, but it gets tucked in when not in use. Now I'm doing the happy dance thinking about where to vape on the Fantasy in May. Wow this will be the first casino without a cigarette in hand too.

Funny story: One of the first times I ever saw an e-cigarette, I was outside at night and far enough away from the user that I wouldn't have smelled it anyways. It was one of the very realistic ones and I just assumed he had a cigarette until he stuck it, still glowing, into the pocket of his hoodie :eek::eek: Luckily a mutual friend of ours saw my expression and explained what I'd just seen.

I'm sure something similar could happen aboard ship so keep that in mind when choosing a place to use your e-cigarette.

If you vape because you are an ex-smoker, does it not make sense to also try to wean yourself off the yet to be determined cancer risk, chemical enriched, water vapor? The best thing to do, is restrict where you do it, just like smokers. More communities are banning them in non-smoking areas also, so it makes sense for the cruise ship to do so also.

No. Where's the fun in that?

You've got a good point there on weaning off. I plan on it myself. I'm also coming off 2packs/day. I'm treating it like a patch. I started with 24mg of nicotine, than to 18, I'm now at 12. I'm probably going to be at least another month on the 12. I am taking my time so I don't blow it.

I really don't want to keep this habit, its a pain in the behind to be honest.

It's not the nicotine that has me. It's having something in my mouth. I could probably suck on my thumb or chew on a pencil with Chinese lead based paint and get the same satisfaction. LOL

See for me I really really enjoy smoking. The only reason I quit was my health. There's yet to be any proof that the vape is bad for me. Not to say that it couldn't happen but the European studies I've read can find nothing bad about them. For me the undetermined risk is worth it for something I enjoy and its much much better for me than the real thing. I have weaned down to a 12 and maybe I'll go lower but I still don't want to be confined to smoking areas because I and especially my significant other don't like to be around the smoke.

While research is still ongoing, some of the most recent research indicate that yes, there are chemicals in e-cigs. But what many opponents of e-cigs are omitting to say is that the concentration of these chemicals is in such reduced amounts that they are basically negligible. Some of these chemicals are actually naturally occurring in the air we breathe.

One of the principal ingredients that was found to be harmful was propylene glycol, which is no longer contained in some of the more reputable brands, like Blu.

As e-cigs are more regulated, you will find more consistency among the different brands. Some products will be banned or retooled as regulations continue evolving but e-cigs are here to stay. If anything, you will find more acceptance as some of the myths and misinformation is debunked.

Some cruise lines, like Princess , have already changed their e-cigs policies and allow them pretty much anywhere on their ships, excluding MDR and main lounge. It's just a sign of things to come.

Good luck with completely quitting, it sounds like you are on the right track. :)

I understand you not wanting to be with the smokers but be aware that other may not want to inhale you exhaled vapor. I don't. So color me with the other killjoy poster.

In your own cabin, in non confined areas I see no problem but if you were right next to me, I would have an issue. As Tapi has stated some products are safer than others and I have no idea what you are inhaling and what you are exhaling out of your lungs (it's the same as coughing in my face) so I'd just as soon not be exposed since there are clearly defined areas and you don't want to comply with those (I understand your reasoning) be aware of others and you should be fine.

Princess does state that if another guests complains the person with the the e cig will be asked to stop.

The wife smokes e-cigs now and on last years cruise on the Pride she was only approached once by ship personnel. This was in the casino and only because some old biddy said her cigarette smoke was choking her. What a fool this old lady was. The casino manager came over and talked to my wife and when she saw it was an e-cig she apologized for the interruption and told the old lady it was impossible to be choking on my wife's cigarette smoke. Some people just aren't happy unless they are complaining about something.

Oh, and yes, my wife was winning on one of the slots machines.

Sounds like you work for the company ---- if you read my post, I stated that if you are using it to stop smoking, which is a good thing, than you should treat it as such, and follow also the smoking laws or "rules". Additionally, more and more communities are adding e-cigs to the smoking laws. In the old days, smoking was not considered dangerous or inconclusive also. Now we know better. Any type of smoking is a personnal choice. However, most people really don't want to see somone on a plane using it, or in a restaurant, or around a kid's sports field. The last thing anyone wants is having a new generation of kids, smoking e-cigs, and having them 40 years from now showing up in cancer wards. Rules and/or laws are going to be more proactive, and the old thinking of that it is proven yet, just isn't going to happen anymore. We are now a more pro-active society and really, any thing that your introduce intentionally into your lungs will be determined dangerous.

I used my e-cig everywhere on the ship. I am very discreet about it though and hold the vapor in so I don't exhale anything. Never had anyone say anything to me. I saw them everywhere on the Sunshine but only a few people using them in public.
