He called with trips he thought we would like that were at a good value. Once booked he called to wish a Bon Voyage, and when we returned he called to see how everything went. Since then I've had a new PVP ever two years on average and all they are are order takers. But how how can you expect much from them when you get little from the company itself anymore. Those are CVS (Cruise Vacation Specialists). Different level of education and experience. Their pay structure is also different. They only get a few bucks per booking and then move on to the next phone call. At least with a PVP you would've been able to call the same person on their direct extension and have them rectify the messed up booking instead of holding for over and hour for a random person. She knew exactly what I was wanting to accomplish. She was taking so long, I said to her it is the last cabin in my area can we secure it quickly before it is taken, we had a lengthy discussion about me needing my dad close to me, he has never cruised (actually he has never traveled) and is not in the greatest health. What the heck. The supervisor says she sees in the notes that she booked him in the cabin I wanted then a few minutes later cancelled that booking and booked him in a different cabin. OMG!!!! Started the thread title just because I wanted to make sure that girl didnt get a commission on a screwed up booking, but in the process I was on the phone with carnival and my simple little thread turned into a venting rant for me. The next day I received an e-mail from the one they assigned me. He's been a PVP with Carnival for ten years. I wrote back and told him what we wanted. He got back with me with pricing and said that I had to call him to make the booking because Carnival's ruling is that they won't do it through e-mails. I was glad that I called him because when booking, I found out that the pricing he gave me was for ES and I would never book under ES. We are doing a B2B with brother and sister in law. We have two cabins next to each other. One son is already booked on the first week with a friend on another deck. For the second week, son is booked next to us with another son joining him. PVP had no problems making all of the arrangements within a few minutes. He even held the cabin for brother for 24 hours so that they could call with their info. Sister in law said that when she called, it was the easiest booking she ever went through because PVP had all the info ready for her when she called. I actually do all the work before I call him, so he loves me right back! :p He's explained that what he receives is a "credit" for each booking. It doesn't matter if it's the cheapest upper/lower cabin or a corner aft wrap suite. He gets credit for the booking, not the price, so he's just as happy to take care of me (who often sails solo in 1A cabins) as he is anyone who may be booking a cabin that costs 3 times as much. When I call, I already have Carnival's website open to a "fake" booking, including having clicked on the cabin I want. He gets started with the booking, then I have to exit my fake booking because he can't even access the cabin I've selected. So, if there's a particular cabin you want, that's a way to effectively "hold" it until the person on the phone can grab it. I booked my first 2 Carnival cruises by calling Carnival and speaking with whichever rep answered. For our next 4 Carnival cruises, I booked with the same PVP. This PVP sent me something in the mail with her name, tel. no. and ext., etc. It was on a business card that she sent to us with an advertisement or something from Carnival; a sort of form letter. We have used her since around 2007. When I'm booking, I already know where I want to be, which ship, date, etc., and she has all of our info from past cruises. Booking takes me about 5-10 min. on the phone with her. She takes care of price drops when I call her, and she gets back to us immediately when I have a question from when we book all the way until our sail date. She's great. I hope she never leaves. I asked her if she receives anything for referrals, and she said yes. I don't know what she receives, but I send friends or family to her if they are booking a Carnival cruise. When the receptionist answers, they can locate a PVP for you. You may already have one assigned to you. I'd love to give you my PVP's extension but Cruise Critic guidelines prohibit it :( But I do hope you get one as good as ours. He's given us EXCELLENT service for 8 years now. Just like with so many sales jobs, it's a "dog eat dog" kind of environment, with a handful of PVP's attempting to steal business from another PVP, even though the practice is strict forbidden. Sometimes one PVP may inadvertently call a guest who belongs to another PVP if multiple profiles for one guest exists (which does happen), but other times, that's not the case. My PVP has told me that if I ever get a call from another PVP, telling me that they are my new PVP, that I should get their name and extension (right before telling him/her to F$&@# off) so that he can report them.
