West Coast prices. (California)

Why why why are the cruises out if Long Beach more expensive than Florida cruises? 3 and 4 night cruises seem to bottom out around $350 pp for two. Six nights are nearly $500 pp. I live in Washington state and it's much cheaper to fly to Cali (duh) but bargain cruises from Florida almost make up the difference. I want the best of both worlds. Cheaper flights AND bargain priced cruises.

Fewer ships on the west coast = higher prices.

OV... plus port fees taxes on the Empress deck for total 2 people $415....where on this planet can you cruise cheaper then that for a 4 day cruise.....past guest resident rate I also can use a Casino rate for a few dates of 3 day cruise for $94 pp plus PC+tax IS... I wish I had the time off work to take advantage..

I was looking at the same thing on the Imagination and Inspiration.

I just did 4 days on the Imagination for $159 plus tax and port fees ($231 total). I had my own cabin since there was no solo supplement on this (or about 15 other cruises I looked into). Not sure that the cruises in Florida are going to be much cheaper than that.

As we get closer to summer, the price gap between California and Florida cruises will increase as summer cruises in Cali are not as stifling as those out of Florida. My summer cruises from Fla have been somewhat less enjoyable with the miserable heat and humidity.

But as above, the easy answer is competition. In Cali you can cruise on Carnival or Princess (for the shorter cruises). No RCCL and no NCL.

However, if you want to fly one way, NCL does a 5 or 6 day one way cruise from LA to Vancouver or from Vancouver to LA.

Some of the cruises seem to get cheap last minutes (like 2-3 weeks prior). I think I saw one for $129 pp inside cabin.

The Princess 7 night California costal cruise price got really cheap, so I am guessing it didn't sell well. Don't remember where exactly that one takes off from.

All these cheap rates I'm seeing quoted--are they from Cali? If so I'm not seeing them. From Florida? Yes, that's my point.

Supply and demand? Cali rates higher due to higher demand? If so then obviously the public is demanding one more ship be put in California.

Yes the Inspiration and Imagination are both out of CA. But why would Carnival want to move another ship to California to lower prices? They want to make as much money as possible and they want to have the price as high as they can while keeping ships full.

I live in CA and I think the reason we don't have a lot of ships here is because there's really not that many places you can cruise to. We've been to Mexico, Alaska, and Hawaii (but we had to fly to Hawaii to catch the ship). Other ports would be too far to sail to be made affordable. That's what I think anyway. I'm originally from FL so I know cruises out there are cheaper. It's understandable why to me.:p There are some short trips from CA to Catalina and Ensenada, MX, I've been on two of them. They were okay...but for me not really worth it, either in the price or in spending time in those two ports. JMHO. If you want cheap cruises out of CA, you have to be able to do them when kids are in school. Also, cruising in CA is limited because they only cruise to Mexico and Alaska some of the year.

Yes, those prices are from California.

When are you looking? As I said above, as we get closer to summer, the California prices go up. Partly because of competition, and partly because California summers are much nicer than Florida summers.

For the past 2 months, the California cruises have been VERY cheap. And they will be again in the late fall and winter.

We are booked for March 24 Inspiration. $104 for a porthole room casino rate and $134 past guest porthole. I say $26 pp per day is pretty cheap. And we are going for spring break from Long beach.

Quick search right now on carnival.com. March thru May. Two people. 7 night cruise. From Cali--$559 and up. From Florida--$349 and up. Still waiting a logical answer as to why.

Seems to me that the fact that the destinations when cruising Cali are very limited would drive the price DOWN. I would think Carnival would need to incentivize people to continue taking the same cruises over and over.

I got that Casino rate $204 Empress deck on Imagination (single supplement) in May. Can't wait to win my first Imagination ship on a stick!
