CruzinNoony Posted March 9, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2014 DH and I are going to be sailing on the Grand and are attempting to arrange a Bon Voyage party for a small group. I am wondering about a tip for the waiter for our lunch. There will be 10 people (8 guests and us). Also, will there be time for the 3 children to go for a swim?
AE_Collector Posted March 9, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2014 Two recent BVE topics in case you haven't read them though not certain if they will answer your questions. http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1934658 http://cruiseforums.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1992923 Terry
cruznliz Posted March 9, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 9, 2014 We've done the BVE 3 times with between 4 to 6 people plus us (the passengers). We did not tip. Other than eating lunch, there's an optional tour of the ship that few participate in. When you're done with lunch there will probably be at least 90 minutes to explore the ship or swim. Your guests can change clothes in a restroom or in your cabin. Have fun!
Colo Cruiser Posted March 9, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 9, 2014 (edited) Thats a great idea, these waiters are not going to get any auto type tips from any BVE participants. I think slipping them $20 or so would be great. Edited March 9, 2014 by Colo Cruiser
Thumper69 Posted March 9, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 9, 2014 I hope I'm not hijacking this post. I am sailing Star to Hawaii in Nov and also trying to organize a BVE. There will be 8-10 BVE guests plus 5 passengers in 2 suites. We want to have a small party after lunch in our suite. I will be paying for all of my guests. Question is. Is it possible for the BVE guests to bring 2 or 3 bottles of wine between them for the party in the suite? They aren't big drinkers and I wanted to keep my 2 bottles,1 champagne for sail away and 1 special bottle of wine for a formal night. Would the wine brought on by BVE guests be subject to the corkage fee? If they are I'll just either carry them on myself and pay the fee or buy wine onboard. After already paying for 10 guests I would like to try to keep some costs down a little. I also don't want my guests to feel uncomfortable or pay the corkage at check-in :D
