Did an 11 day on it last year...smaller ship (its basically exactly like the Sky) but we had lots of fun on it and no issues. Crew was great...lots of different activities Enjoy :)

We've cruised the Sun twice with our son, he was 11 and 12. Depending on when you sail as to whether there will be a lot of other kids onboard. We sailed in Feb both times and there were only a handful of kids his age.

With that being said it is a great ship but doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the mega ships, no rock climbing wall, water slides etc. For my son it didn't matter he had a great time, heck who wouldn't he wasn't in school.

We love the Sun, older ship but great crew and easy to navigate

I have a hold on a 7 day cruise on the Norwegian Sun for our family of 5. My children will be 14,11 and 7 when we sail. Is it a good ship? Lots to do? Never cruised NCL before. Thanks

I should also mention that the Sun has interior and balcony rooms that fit 5 if you hadn't already figured that out.

We just got off the Sun and loved it. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new ships but lots of open space and a great crew. I don't have any children so I can't speak to those activities. We were on a 10 day cruise so it was a bit of an older crowd and not many kids but I am sure I 7 day will be much better.

not sure if the sailing you are looking at has kids sail free but if not check to see what you can find. it will save you a lot of cash! btw, ncl is a wonderful cruise line. you will have a great time.

free style works great for families. There are enough ports, a nice pool and a good kids club, so they should be fine. The 14 year old will probably find other kids their age to hang with and the 2 younger ones will enjoy the kids club when not in port. I can't imagine any kid not enjoying cruising.

Been on the Sun twice for 23 nights during two fantastic trips to South America and the Baltic. The first trip, my son was in fifth grade and the latter, in seventh.

During the first trip, he hung out with some other kids that were on our roll call. Very few kids because of the uniqueness of the itinerary. He also liked hanging out with his parents and other adult roll callers during the second voyage. Times have changed and he only wants to be with his friends now.

We traveled on the sun in April of 2012. I was a little anxious traveling with my 3 kids (5, 4, 1 at the time) on the Sun because the previous cruise we had done with them was a Disney. But it was fanstastic! There weren't alot of other kids on the ship, but they still had a great time in the kids club. They loved the small pool that was off to itself and enjoyed the treasure hunt they participated in with the kids club. They got to make t-shirts one day also. We loved it and cant wait for our cruise on the Dawn this April!

We sailed on the Sun in October, and are booked to sail again. We loved the fact that there were not the crowds on the other mega-ships. Crowds can be overwhelming to kids - especially if they have any issues with anxiety or autism. I don't know your son, but I am a therapist and children make up 80% of my practice, and that is what I have seen. Hope you find the right cruise for all of you:)

We loved the Sun but found for the 2 kids limited stuff to do. We were on the ship in Jan. They loved the kids club, daughter turned 6 on cruise and son is 8 but other then times in the kids club there wasn't a lot going on the ship for them to do compared to some other ships. We found older adults hung out in the kids hot tub area and complained if the kids were splashing, there is 2 other pools, one adult and one everyone. The everyone pool was closed a few days so this very limited our options for swimming all together. We did use the golf cage a few times, tried to use the basketball court but teenagers/adults always seemed to be playing and not allowing younger ones to play, it was really windy for ping pong. We may go back on it but I think we may try one of the bigger ships that offer, more places to play as a family and sport things to do. Also, I didn't take the kids to all the shows as I didn't think some would be appropriate but other people did take their kids to them all, we picked ones that we thought they would like and were suitable. It was still a lot of fun.

Small but excellent ship. Does not have all the bling of the newer, bigger ships. Feels more like older traditional cruising. HD Brian is awesome. His staff is one of the friendliest we have ever encountered. The Sun is one of our favorite ships.

Wow look at that . I completely agree with you down to the last sentence . ;)

OP , we have been on the Sun 3 times with our kids and they loved every moment. Its our favorite smaller ship..
