Aplmac Posted March 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 15, 2014 (edited) Just wondering how protected the port is from the weather. Do many ship miss this port due to weather in Dec? ===> No. Very few, in fact The only factor that will force a ship to skip Bridgetown Portis a BIG North Swell coming down! (and the surfers are all hyped-up!) This usually happens between October and March but very rarely is the problem severe enough to stop ships from docking. I recall it happening, just one day about 3-4 years ago, but not since. If the seas are a-heaving, ships cannot tie up safely and yes, those thick 4 in. mooring ropes have been known to pop! Captains will often communicate with other nearby cruise ships scheduled to call in at Barbados to inform them of the situation. . LisaDee Posted March 16, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2014 I've been on 3 cruises that called on Barbados and on our March 2008 cruise we were unable to dock due to unusually high swells. The captain tried but the gangways were just bouncing around too much. It was so disappointing! We were having breakfast, all ready for our sail on Silvermoon when we realized that we were pulling away from the dock. The captain came over the loudspeaker pretty quickly to explain what was going on. Luckily we were able to return last year and we're heading there again in November!
