On the breakaway now. We got the all clear to leave the ship at about 2:45. Had to be back by 7:30. Pulling away at 8:00. Supposed to be getting an extra hour in GSC tomorrow.

Haven't heard the updates on the engine. The trip down was fine. Snow on Sunday night and rain or overcast most of Monday. Cleared up as we got near Florida. Seas were about 12-15 feet at worst. Not bad.

Having a great time. First time on NCL. Went to cirque on Sunday and thought it was fabulous (25%off sun nite only). Savor last night - very good. No dinner tonight ate off ship. We'll probably hot up one of the restaurants for dessert.

Interesting, it's our turn to sail this Sunday - doing the happy single digit dance, can't believe neither Mrs. M and I have started packing yet.

BA must've left PC early - must be around 8 PM or even earlier (sail was scheduled for 9PM) - showing her doing 11 knots outside, left the waterways & cleared the coast/land alread, en route to GSC. Update - she's further away from land, slowed down to 8.9 knots now and looked like the tug boat doing the escort is turning back for port around 6 knots. Only a short distance to the next stop so no need to rush. Hopefully, it's all fixed.

We're on the Dawn a few years back & had issues with one of the pod & after GSC, we went straight to Nassau & overnighted at the pier so that they could do the necessary repair. Will be interested to hear what happened - we ain't got anything planned for PC, been there too many times.

We did leave at 8. Part of the itinerary change. But we are staying an hour later on GSC. I wouldn't mind if we went straight to Nassau after. Were you able to get off the ship that night?

The Dawn made it to Nassau around 9 PM, could've been earlier - memories faded and yes, we're allowed to hit dry land & given all abroad time for next day as they expected folks to be partying all night.) I know some taxi over to Atlantis. It was dark, market/shops closed already & we just stay on & watch from our balcony. It was a last minute ship annoucement while we're on our way south as we might've planned otherwise.

BA doing 17.3 knots now, that's a good sign too.

I've never sailed in the winter. Probably never will.

You should be fine for next week. Sunday's high is 44*. Sunday night cold though 25*.

My boss has and she said you loose a day or so at the start and finish.

Anything has got to be better than the winter we just had.

Have a great trip!

the weather was quite comfortable last week . each day . It was warm enough to be outside with a towel as a cover up. no wind and temps mid 50s. the sun reflecting off the sea makes it delightful

mking8288: I will be on the BREAKAWAY in less than 2 weeks.

What are some things that you may have done at Port Canaveral that did not involve taking an EXCURSION? I am NOT interested right now to go to the Disney Parks or the Kennedy Space Center.

How did you get around? Via TAXI, Via SHUTTLE (someone noted there are shuttles to take passengers without having to make an advance reservation)?

Do you know how far The COVE (Shopping Area + Restaurants) in Port Canaveral is from where the BREAKAWAY is usually docked?

We did Epcot 10 years ago on the Dawn when NCL package wasn't so expensive but rushing & really too little time inside any of the theme parks. Didn't book ShoreEx with NCL with he Jewel as our small group just took 1 of the many available mini/full-sized licensed van, steps away outside the pier terminal building to downtown (see Review under SIG. with photos) and walk, inexpensive by the person, over the bridge/pass shopping mall (Walmart, eeek - urrrh !) and walk the shops/restaurants & checked out some of the condos & hotels 2 or 3 blocks away, and photos, etc. Not a whole lot to do really, IMO but good to recondition those sea legs but our ride down was quite smooth. Our big van was a FL licensed taxi and friendly driver who grew up, live & work in area, does RT to Orlando ($$$) and airports too and on call by mobile # - we called & he came back to pick us up in about 15 minutes back to the ship, don't recall if we picked up anything, not even chips/soda/junk food to go back. Couldn't find a 7-11 or chain pharmacy stores nearby. NCL's paid shuttle buses were a block away & running on a regular basis back-n-forth. Travel time between ship & malls is about 15 minutes, maybe less and from town, no more than 20 minutes - traffic is light & very few traffic lights as it's mostly on wide open roads but driver did take some back/side streets on our way back.

Ship arrived midday so our basic plan like last time, eat a big/late brunch - avoid the crowd rushing off, maybe do Coca Beach then downtown walk, and then back to ship for a late & light lunch, relax & then do dinner/watch the ship sail out again (perfect for specialty dining onboard) Don't recall there are free shuttles to the mall from town, it's less than 5 minutes but walking might be 20 to 30 minutes. I should check out the FL board section - just starting to pack now. :D

This time, we see the BA as the destination itself as been to these ports (and Bermuda) enough. Maybe we will see the NASA rocket launch, missed one last time too due to weather (forecast next week isn't great either)

Don't plan to use internet or ship's WiFi but if there's anything important to share/post or update - will try to post/alert rest of CC like you folks sailing when we are in FL since we got plenty of free & almost unlimited 4G/LTE from our carriers, while we are docked & not on ship's tower.

GSC was awesome. Weather was perfect. Got way too much sun. Specked in Nassau at 7;45ish. At breezes now. Another picture perfect day. Not looking forward to going back to the cold.

Glad to know the weather is finally cooperating!

Have they fixed the engine or made any announcements about it?

Thank you for the update!

Safe Sailing!

mking8288: THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR INFO and suggestions about Port Canaveral.

I have been to the Disney Parks a few times. IF the SHIP docked at Port Canaveral for a full day, then maybe I would have considered taking an Excursion to Disney. Many years ago, I toured the Kennedy Space Center.

As I read your info about Port Canaveral, you basically hired a Van to take you somewhere and drop you off. Then you contacted the driver to pick you up. It seemed that you did not reserve the Van in advance.

You mentioned about NCL SHUTTLES going back and forth. Do these Shuttles have to be reserved with NCL or just pay for them as needed at the Port?

Just found out that our friends may RENT a CAR for the Day. However, not so excited about having to figure out where to drive and I would prefer a Van Service.

ENJOY your CRUISE this Sunday.

Oops, SIG for signature in short. We didn't book the van, plenty of drivers & taxi-vans outside the pier n some offering tours. NCL shuttle booked via ShoreEx desk, return at your own pace or time, up to last departure from pickup point in town. Nothing really within walking distance of the terminal, or we would've been fine just take an easy stroll. Pretty sure we are going to just "wing" it next week. Sometimes, NCL would discount the basic pier to town transport if they aren't selling at all as many NY cruisers have the same itinerary over & over again, on different ships but same ports. (If you pre-book online, they will credit difference in sale price via OBC)

Arrgh - no Upsell Fairy this Sunday, fully sold out to capacity - but, deck 13 for us will be just fine -yippie !!

wasiii: Thanks for your help about "SIG"

mking8288: Thanks again.

I did NOT notice any info on the NCL WEBSITE about SHUTTLES to TOWN, etc. I was NOT aware that NCL SHUTTLES could even be reserved at the SHORE EXCURSION DESK on the SHIP. I know I have read many parts of the NCL WEBSITE, but I guess I missed some things.

One passenger on my ROLL CALL for March 30 just noted the availability of Shuttles for $.

Yes. Under my account, explore-plan, Coca beach shopping shuttle $12 adults, child from $6. Coca beach n village, $14 adult, $9 child. Rent a car could save some $ but the hassle n only for a few hours. We will let the local drivers make some money n be happy or just wing it. Poor weather n we stay put.

mking8288: On another Thread (at least I think it was another thread), I just happen to see a Post from you, I think it was about Complimentary Dining Reservations.

I just posted on my March 30 ROLL CALL about Complimentary Dining Reservations. I was able to make RESERVATIONS on the NCL same page as I would for the Specialty Restaurants. However, for me, not all days and times were available.

Weeks ago, I got conflicting answers from NCL REPS about the RESERVATIONS at Complimentary Restaurants.

A friend received an E-mail from NCL about the Reservations today. I still have not received a similar e-mail. Each couple reserved separately
