troj89 Posted March 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) We are cruising for our 1st time May 4, 2014 on Carnival Glory. I was wondering are there any advantages or disadvantages to docking in Crown Bay vs Havensight at St Thomas? Any info would be greatly appreciated. We are scheduled to dock in Crown Bay by the way. Most would probably say there is a slight advantage to being in the Havensight area because of its location and expansive shopping area. However, DW and I have been to that island many times and are comfortable with either area. You might want to consider that the any advantage or disadvantage depends on what you plan to do with your day. If you are going to take a cruise line excursion it really makes no difference. If shopping is your goal, from Crown Bay you would probably want to grab a taxi into Charlotte Amalie. If you simply want to go to a beach, it really depends which beach as to which location offers the lowest prices and fastest transport. Langley Cruisers Posted March 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Havensight is preferred due to the larger shopping area, but CB is just fine. It's a little further away and is reflected in the taxi rates but other than that, please don't let it bother or worry you. Both piers are fine and St. Thomas is absolutely beautiful. Are you doing something there?
troj89 Posted March 24, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 24, 2014 We haven't decided if we are going to do anything or just go relax on the beach. Any suggestions?? Life is Good Cruising Posted March 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 24, 2014 We haven't decided if we are going to do anything or just go relax on the beach. Any suggestions?? Thank you for the info as we have a lot to learn before we leave on this wonderful trip. We've been to Emerald Beach, which is close to Crown Bay. Beach is clean, water is calm, they have chair rentals, shade if needed, food and drinks available and restroom facilities. You have to walk though the lobby of the Best Western Emerald Beach Resort to get to the beach. Their pool is for hotel guests only. We enjoyed our time there and would do it again. Langley Cruisers Posted March 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 24, 2014 We haven't decided if we are going to do anything or just go relax on the beach. Any suggestions??... Well, that's what I meant - leaving the port area to do anything is a good idea. :) We have a St. Thomas forum here with lots of good ideas and suggestions. You don't really even have to re-post; you can just read the threads, get some ideas, make your notes, research stuff online, and make the decision. marco Posted March 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Emerald Beach is quite nice, and probably the closest to Crown Bay (still, not walkable). Both Crown Bay and Havensight are pretty much equidistant from "downtown" so if you are a walker, definitely doable. However, the walk from Havensight is more picturesque and much, much more "walker friendly" but both have the open air jitney's that run back and forth continuously. MCC retired Posted March 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2014 I 2nd the Emerald Beach for Crown Bay pier. It is certainly is walkable , less than 1 mile over a small hill . Walked it several times . Taxi wouldn't be much I'm sure . Not much shopping there .

Rare Hlitner Posted March 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) From Crown Bay, DW and I have walked to Emerald Beach which is located near the airport on Lindberg Bay. I is a medium length sandy beach with a couple of small resort/motels along the beach. They do rent chairs/umbrellas and there is a place where you can get some food and use rest room facilities. We DO NOT RECOMMEND walking to the beach from Crown Bay because there are no sidewalks along the narrow road (which is also hilly). We think the walk is just too dangerous because of traffic coming around blind curves. Emerald is a beach that should suit those that want a quiet beach to relax for the day. The Swimming is pretty good and we have had fun snorkeling (we have our own equipment) along the left side of the beach where we often see some interesting fish including a group of 5 small squid that seem to be around the rocks every time we visit.
