Valen9 Posted April 2, 2014 #28 Share Posted April 2, 2014 My favorites: Chocolate croissants! If you get a breakfast bread basket, ask them to make sure to include some. Butter! They have a really good supplier. Herring! It's not an NCL cruise without pickeled herring on the breakfast buffet. On my latest cruise on Breakaway, I've added the Norwegian Salmon Tartare from the MDR. Yum.

meatball_nyc Posted April 2, 2014 #32 Share Posted April 2, 2014 Pickled herring should be eaten with rye bread and sour cream... And Bacon!! And maple syrup to dip it in. With an ice cold beer to wash it all down with! Thank you for the kind reminder, KC :) Are you packed yet? NH Cruisers Posted April 2, 2014 #33 Share Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) I know this may sound rediculous but... My wife loves the Potato soup served at Cagney's. I concure, it is really good. I could eat a whole vat of that stuff. Edited April 2, 2014 by NH Cruisers

Valen9 Posted April 3, 2014 #35 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I have never had pickled herring. Do you eat it with something? I don't. It comes with little curls of picked onion, which is also good. I don't recommend eating any peppercorns that may be mixed in, though. If you don't like oily fish then you might not like it. The beauty of having a buffet is that you can take just a small amount and find out for yourself. You'll typically find it in the cold area near the smoked salmon, capers, cream cheese, etc.

polySeraph Posted April 3, 2014 #39 Share Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) My husband loves the portabello mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese and pine nuts. It's an appetizer served at lunch in the MDR but my husband sometimes orders two as his entrée. My favorites are the mushroom quesadilla appetizer, the filet and the crème brulee at LeBistro and the lamb at Moderno's. megsok7 Posted April 3, 2014 #43 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Another vote for chocolate croissants! and the salmon in the mdr... Rare Dorhead1230 Posted April 3, 2014 #44 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I am not a huge French toast fan, but I LOVE the French toast in the buffet! I also can't wait to get some chocolate-raspberry truffle cake in the MDR this summer. At Moderno, pretty much everything on the salad bar is fantastic, but I was almost embarrassed by the amount of grilled pineapple I kept asking for...I think I ate more of that than the meats! :) There was also a Thai chicken and shrimp entree in the MDR one night that I'd love to have again. Hyedee Posted April 3, 2014 #46 Share Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Re: Chocolate croissants that I keep reading about - tell me more: is the "dough" chocolate, or regular croissants stuffed with chocolate? Rare blackwing Posted April 3, 2014 #47 Share Posted April 3, 2014 If you're familiar with the French pain au chocolat, that's what they are. Square croissants with chocolate filling. And some chocolate drizzle on them. Not chocolate batter/dough. They are fergalicious so delicious.
IWORK2CRUISE Posted April 3, 2014 #48 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Pretzel Rolls!! Escargot at Le Bistro! Basketweaverz Posted April 3, 2014 #50 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I dream about the muesli at breakfast in the buffet. I have tried every brand in our supermarket and none taste as good as this. One morning on the Epic, it was made with fresh pears and I ate nothing else for breakfast but that!!!
