Seward to Anchorage 2 questions

Hi,

Will be in Seward after cruise and were not sure if we want to spend the entire day in Seward and take the Alaska Dome train up to Anchorage or spend a couple of hours and then head via car or bus.

Are reservations necessary for the train or can you make them the same day?

Or flight doesn't leave until late the following day, where would you spend more time? Seward or Anchorage?

Seward, for sure, with the train to Anchorage in the evening.

We went from Anchorage to Seward on the train in May 2012 and spent two nights in Seward (cute little town). The day we arrived we went to the Alaska Sea Life Center and did the "Puffin Encounter" (you get to go behind the scenes and feed the puffins). On the second day we did the Major Marine Kenai Fjords excursion. Both were fabulous.

Do not miss that train, and be sure to buy the Gold Star tickets.

Here is a link to some photos I took on that cruise -- Alaska Railroad and Seward.

take a look and determine where YOUR interests are. What I prefer really has nothing to do with you.

You do need advance reservations for the Alaska RR, especially cruise ship days, the train is full. I always get the regular class of service, suits me just fine. :)
