Child from Another Family/Passport

Hello All,

I am trying to do some research for a coworker. Her 12 year old girl was just invited to go on a 3 or 4 day cruise on Disney. I know it will be closed looped cruise and I am fairly certain that all she will need will be her birth certificate. Isn't there paperwork that they would have to get notarized stating that they give consent to the other family to bring on this cruise? Where would this paperwork come from? With being only 12, would she need a form of picture ID to go with her birth certificate?

Thanks,

No picture ID needed for those under 16 years....She will probably need a notarized letter from the parents allowing her to travel with the other family....and the other family should have permission to give medical treatment, should it be needed.....a copy of insurance, etc....would be a good thing to have!

The best place would be Disney...they can tell you exactly what will be needed.

Here's a link to Disney Cruise Lines web site discussing minors cruising without their parents. There is a form to fill out.

Here's another link with passport and travel document information. Just put in the region you're cruising to and click on passport & travel documentation.

For closed loop cruises to the Caribbean, the minor doesn't need a passport to cruise, an original or copy of their government issued birth certificate will suffice. But a passport book is preferred, in case something happens and you need to fly home internationally.

While I would be more than comfortable taking my child on a closed loop cruise with their birth certificate and government issued ID (if 16 or older and as I am in two weeks) if my child was going to be traveling with another family I would probably obtain a passport for them.
