guxu Posted May 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) Before my first Carnival cruise, I did my research and found chocolate melting cake was a must have. On the board I had it and did not care for it. I ordered it again on a different cruise thought I might miss something the first time. Well, it did not change much. To me, chocolate melting cake is just another average dessert. I am not saying I hate it. But I can go cruise without it.:o Edited May 7, 2014 by guxu

MissKIA Posted May 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2014 I think it's okay, I don't love it like most do. I prefer it to be more cake, less melting.
bunchesofun Posted May 7, 2014 #11 Share Posted May 7, 2014 First cruise I enjoyed it. Subsequent cruises it's just too chocolatey for my taste. Only had it, I think, once this last cruise and that was too many times.

MedicineBall Posted May 7, 2014 #13 Share Posted May 7, 2014 Every time I have had it, it has never been cooked properly. Too much or not enough. I prepare this dish then serve it outside of the ramekin. I am sure to plate the dish would take so much more time in the kitchen, but I am sure the real reason is the inconsistency of the end product. We did the chefs table on the Imagination a few years ago (in hopes the food would be better, still not seasoned and some pairings were just bad ) In that you tour the kitchen and they prepare a melting cake. It didn't look good even there. I like the flourless cake or lava cake or soufflé cake or whatever the place its at calls it. But its very hard to prepare this properly for so many servings and to have it done on time. Most soufflés have to be ordered an hour in advance. I would not be shocked if the melting cake is from a mix or frozen in the ramekins and different than the one demoed to us in the kitchen. Most of the desserts are frozen or from bulk mix. Some not horrible, and some are as bad as Home Town Buffet or one of those other Corral places. I love Carnival, but the food is what it is. At least on the ships I have sailed.... bjd2 Posted May 7, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 7, 2014 I tried it the first night of our first cruise in 2008 and never had it again. I didn't hate it but found that I like other things much more.

Cruise Envy Posted May 7, 2014 #18 Share Posted May 7, 2014 I'm a huge chocoholic, and I don't like it either. I've tried it once in the dining room, and once at Chef's Table. No thanks!
SadieN Posted May 7, 2014 #19 Share Posted May 7, 2014 The WCMC is only good as a dip for the fruit plate. I usually get the cheese plate for dessert.
Rare Honolulu Blue Posted May 7, 2014 #20 Share Posted May 7, 2014 Tried it once. Not for me. I would've liked it better had it been more cake and less pudding.
twinbee Posted May 7, 2014 #21 Share Posted May 7, 2014 It is hit or miss for me. On some cruises I had it and enjoyed it. But while on the Breeze I did not care for it.
sjcruiser Posted May 7, 2014 #22 Share Posted May 7, 2014 I usually have it once on a cruise, but thats it. I prefer the creme brûlée and bitter and blanc. After that I go for pieces of pie with ice cream, or a piece of cake with coffee.
wrigley80 Posted May 7, 2014 #23 Share Posted May 7, 2014 I will usually order it once on a cruise and that is on a night when nothing else appeals to me. It is too rich for me :p
iSpark Posted May 7, 2014 #24 Share Posted May 7, 2014 It's okay, nothing more than that though. More cake and less soup would be 100% better. I don't see what all the rave is about myself, but to each their own. And doesn't "melting" refer to an action in process, and not "melted" as in finished. Dessert name should be called Chocolate Melted Cake.
