RCCL change in smoking policy

Recommended Posts

Please note that CCL has also banned smoking on the balconies. In addition, today, NCCL has also announced that they are implementing a ban on smoking on the balconies. One of the reasons that it has been banned is that it is a safety issue. Ashes from the cigarette could ignite a curtain on your cabin, or even fly into a nearby passenger's cabin.

In respect to E-Cigarettes, they are considered by the cruise line to be the same as tobacco. One can debate it, but these are the rules. If you care caught smoking in non-designated areas you can be fined and even taken off the ship.

Note: Smoking is still permitted in designated areas. I would suggest enjoy the cruise and a smoke at the designated area in the company of fellow cruisers. Vising the nearby bar would also be nice, especially having a scotch or port with the cigarette, pipe, or cigar.

Several weeks ago CCL announced that they are banning smoking on the ship's balconies. Today, NCCL also announced significant smoking restrictions.

Why are the cruise lines doing this?

1) Many passengers in nearby balconies have complained

2) Several years ago Princess Cruise Lines had a major fire secondary to smoking on the balconies. Ashes from the cigarette can ignite the curtain in your cabin.

Frankly I am surprised that the cruise lines have not banned smoking on the balconies sooner.

E-Cigarettes are subject to the same regulations as conventional cigarettes. If you smoke these in a non-designated area you can be fined and even put off the ship.

I do smoke both Cigars and a Pipe. What I do is go down to the designated smoking area and enjoy with my fellow cruisers who do smoke. The fact that there is a nearby bar where you can purchase a scotch or port lends to the enjoyment.

"Active casino players cannot smoke in the casino". Now thats funny. Another ingenious rule that is non-enforceable. Are they going to have smoking police stand next to a smoker at a slot machine to see if they are really gambling? Sir, you cannot smoke while waiting for a seat at the blackjack table. Please leave. Sir, we know you have lost $2,000 at Roulette, but your wife is smoking, she will have to leave. These people actually get paid to come up with these rules.
