I am looking at a river cruise probably Rhine or may be Rhine & Moselle River for 2015. Has anyone sailed with Emerald Waterways? They started in 2013 seem to have nice ships and are price a little lower and include gratuities, transfer to airports , etc.

Hello Cruise 831. Emerald still is a relatively new line, but we were onboard for its debut sailing. Please take a look at our review: http://www.cruisecritic.com/reviews/review.cfm?ShipID=747 It might help you determine whether Emerald Waterways is right for you.

Happy cruising,

Colleen

Emerald Waterways are the new subsidiary of Scenic Tours. A more budget oriented company. It replaces Evergreen tours. Why? I have no idea. When it comes to name changes I always exercise caution. This is truly a Caveat Emptor situation.

For the need for complete transparency, we (Gillies and Zaiser, Inc.) first wish to let you know we represent both Emerald Waterways and Scenic Cruises as their public relations firm in North America. And as you would agree, it would be our job to paint our clients in the best light. So you should always confirm claims with other independent sources.

We have had river cruise companies as clients for more than 30 years - from KD to Deilmann to Scenic to Emerald. We believe Emerald is a wonderful line that will prove itself to be a real treat for anyone who goes on it. Not just because of the modern ships that have amenities not found on others but also because the focus of the owner of the company is on the enjoyment of the guests. So all comments and suggestions from guests for improvement are read and taken seriously.

Both Scenic and Emerald have designed, built and own their ships. They own their coaches and tour operations so there is no sub-contracting. So no stops in "my favorite souvenir store...". They have a loyal staff who go out of their way to assist.

Today's river cruises are for the most part, all well run. And most people will have a good time on whichever line they choose. The difference will be in the details, level of service and demographic of the guests. Please compare them carefully and read the fine print. "All-inclusive" doesn't always mean fully-inclusive. Emerald does not include everything but doesn't advertise that it does. But it also will not nickel and dime you on options that should be included. Including gratuities (included). The honesty of the line will speak for itself - and is well worth a try.

Know what you mean but they do have brand new ships completely new design with their own flag and are completely up front about their being owned by Scenic. On the UK website it looks like they have hooked up with Arosa as well. Evergreen is advertising in Australia with new ships, there ships before were leased.
