I am sailing out of Philly on the 14. We do no like to plan excursions, but would like to see the Maritime museum. Is it within walking distance from the ship dock? I have alittle trouble walking long distances, just wanted to know if it was possible to walk there.

It is a bit of a distance but certainly within walking distance from where the ship docks. The Titanic exhibit is quite interesting. If you find the walk is beyond your capability there are plenty of cabs available to take you there for a fairly minimal amount. :)

How far is the Maritime museum froem the casino?

Corky...we are on the same sailing....we did halifax last year as well.....the museum is much closer to the ship than the casino.....last year we walked to the casino but it is a bit of a hike......about 1.5-2 miles.....but it is along the water and it is a really nice walk....lots of places to stop and sit and relax along the way

Last year when we were in Halifax (on the Jewel) there was the FRED bus, which is free. It came by the cruise terminal and then did a loop through the city. It passes by the Maritime Museum, or at least gets close to it. I'm almost positive it passed it though. You might try Googling Halifax and go to their website and look for FRED info. We took it up to the Public Gardens and Citadel and then walked back to the ship, going to the Maritime Museum on the way back. The bus also passed the Casino.

Is the Titantic Museum close enough to walk to? Do you think we need to book an excursion, or could we do it on our own? It's our first cruise (leaving on Enchantment of the Seas out of Philly on 8/21) and I'm clueless and nervous .

Deb, you can easily walk to the Maritime Museum, and you absolutely do it on your own. Be sure to watch all three movies - there is an extra charge for the 3D Titanic movie, but it's worth it. There's another Titanic movie and one about the Halifax Explosion that are free, and very good.

corkyhead: taxis in Halifax are not expensive and the drivers are VERY friendly and knowledgeable. Any of the cabs that pull up to the cruise ship dock will have a driver who is happy to be a tour guide as well, since you find walking difficult.

Yes emilygrace is correct. When I was in Halifax last year, the FRED bus did take you around the city for free passing and stopping right by the Maritime Museum and the Casino. If you go to the City of Halifax's tourist website, they will send you a free guidebook in the mail and there is information about the FRED bus in that mailer.

The public gardens are also nice to get up to and walk around, however, the FRED bus drops you off about a block and half away and you have to walk uphill the rest of the way. Its not far, its just uphill. Just ask the bus driver to let you know when you've gotten close to the Public Gardens

Halifax was a nice little city to walk around in. The harbor front area is gorgeous and the people of Halifax are very friendly.

Have a good time!
