Are children allowed in the bars on Eclipse?

Our family - two parents, three teenagers - are going to be on a two-week Baltic cruise on the Eclipse this summer. It just occured to me to wonder if when we want to go for a pre-dinner drink in the Martini Bar or such our children will be allowed to accompany us or are the bars viewed as adult-only spaces? They are lovely, sociable, well-mannered young ladies, by the way, just in case anyone is worried about bad behaviour!

No problem whatsoever!

The Martini Bar is an open venue - many walk past, or through on the way to select dining on the starboard side. There are lots of alcoves with nice seating and tables about - I doubt anyone would bat an eye at your family having a pre-dinner drink. Having them take a seat at the actual bar would be in IMHO inconsiderate to other passengers.

The Martini Bar isn't enclosed. It's on one side of the ship right near elevators and stairs and one of the main walking pathways from front to back. The oval shaped bar is closer to the "sidewalk" (for lack of a better word) and then behind it up against the windows are tables and couches and chairs in various groupings. These groupings are sort of separated by curtains so they give the illusion of privacy although they're right next to the bar. Nearly all of the other bars are out in the open or by a pass-through area.

I agree it wouldn't be right to have kids, no matter how "well behaved", sit up at the bar.

Why inconsiderate? Over 12 and they pay an adult fare? Why should they suffer limits on the real estate beyond what is specifically banned like the casino, elite events, spa pool etc. Might accept 'inappropriate' as I know that the bar in the US is generally considered an adult domain but I have to say that few would bat an eye in Europe as long as they were not actually knocking back a Martini.

The problem is there us limited seating in the Martini Bar both at the bar and tables, and I'm sure they want those seats taken by people ordering Martinis.

So what is the difference to you as to "inconsiderate" and your "inappropriate"? Inappropriate seen worse to me than inconsiderate. I don't consider who paid what for fare - a BAR is a BAR as in the Martini BAR. Under age youth should not take seats at the actual bar - IMHO. MY OPINION. Clearly not yours. There are tons of little alcoves and table seating about. Yes I would think it inconsiderate to the adult passengers to show up for a pre-dinner drink to have the actual BAR full of under age children. Cultural differences I would guess.

We were on the Eclipse for this just passed New Year's cruise. There were a number of families including several kids of all ages aboard. No one under 21 was allowed in the casino or at the casino bar. Several times kids wanted to watch TV there wile their parents donated to the casino. They were always politely escorted out with a very courteous explanation.

We did see some older kids seated in the areas immediately surrounding other bars throughout the ship but never at the bar itself. This included the Mast Bar all the way aft up on one of the upper decks. Kids could sit at the tables around that bar but were not permitted to sit at the bar themselves. I also overheard the bartenders there tell under aged patrons on three or four occasions that they would have to be seated at one of the tables, that they the bartenders could not serve them at the bar itself even for soft drinks.

I did see young people get served at Café Al Bacio with no problem but that is more of a coffee house than it is a bar.

Hope this information is helpful

Thank you. I have not got a very clear idea of the layout of the ship fixed in my mind yet. I guess I was imagining a smaller, enclosed venue.

There are quite a few very picture loaded reviews about S-Class ships that have been posted over the last 3-6 weeks. You can look thru any of them as the central area is the same on all 5 ships.

Think about a mall with the center open for 3-4 stories with the shops ringed around it. Same concept.

Oh goodie! We haven't had this one for a while! I only object to poorly behaved or overly loud children at the bar - but then I object to poorly behaved or overly loud adults too. (this is not a poke at the Miami DJ's).

Hi, I didn't include any of my pics in my review - but I like these pics from a poster whose name I've forgotten. They're from Reflection but as you say - the layout is similar if not identical.

We have seen bartenders ask parents with children to move from the martini bar stools to a table in the bar area.

Thank you everyone. Just to be clear, we were not contemplating allowing them to sit directly at the bar! A table in the general vicinity will be absolutely fine. Those photographs are fantastic and do give me a much better idea of what the ship is actually like, thank you very much for posting the link.

So looking forward to this trip, it will be our first cruise ever so expect more naive questions over the next few weeks!

I was at the Martini bar may nights when some at our table didn't order a martini. Majority did. Some just didn't imbibe. Should I be relegated to sit outside of the martini bar since I'm not drinking a martini?

We saw a couple little girls twins, maybe, with their parents and friends every night at the martini bar. The kids were very well behaved more so than the drunks on their barstools, that's for sure:eek:

I've seen posts from others here who did not like, or didn't think that, kids should be allowed to sit at a bar but I'm not sure there is any rule against this on the ship. At the same time I don't think I've ever seen kids sitting at one of the bars. But it is not at all unusual to see families sitting at a table in one of the lounges or bar areas in the afternoon or before dinner.

The only bars I've ever seen an age limit on are the casino bar (at all times) and also in the evening the Sky Lounge on the M class ships had an age restriction after a certain time later in the evening. I don't know if there is a similar restriction on S class ships as the dance band generally plays in the atrium in the evening rather than the sky lounge but there might be. I also don't know about the disco lounge on S class in the evening - although I doubt they'd complain as I've never seen many people in there at any time.
