Are children allowed in the bars on Eclipse?

The Martini Bar is an open venue - many walk past, or through on the way to select dining on the starboard side. There are lots of alcoves with nice seating and tables about - I doubt anyone would bat an eye at your family having a pre-dinner drink. Having them take a seat at the actual bar would be in IMHO inconsiderate to other passengers.

Well stated.

When we were on the Summit last year we got back to Ship before most of the passengers. We decided to try the Martini Bar, which was empty. The bartender allowed my 5 year old to sit at the bar while he showed her some tricks while making her some sort of cranberry concoction. We ended up sitting at the bar for 10 minutes and my daughter wrote her name in the frost. That being said, if the bar was crowded, we wouldn't have done it. During future trips to the Martini Bar, we sat at a table.

I was at the Martini bar may nights when some at our table didn't order a martini. Majority did. Some just didn't imbibe. Should I be relegated to sit outside of the martini bar since I'm not drinking a martini?

Are you and I, not just the most fortunate people on earth AND sea, to have others so willing to inform us, of all the myriad ways in which our views are so inferior to theirs.

Oh, give me a break. I love kids, have lots of grand kids, and have no problem with them being wherever. My comment was only about the Martini Bar. Many times it is difficult to get a seat there because seating is limited and it's a popular place. Those times just might not be the place for a family gathering with kids. Let's not make my remark something it isn't.

Thank you everyone. Just to be clear, we were not contemplating allowing them to sit directly at the bar! A table in the general vicinity will be absolutely fine. Those photographs are fantastic and do give me a much better idea of what the ship is actually like, thank you very much for posting the link.

So looking forward to this trip, it will be our first cruise ever so expect more naive questions over the next few weeks!

Our first ever cruise was with Celebrity on the Constellation to the Baltics in 2002 with our children, then aged 5 and 8. We have taken many cruises since then and returned to the Baltics, with our then teenagers, in 2011. You will have a great time and I'm sure your children will too. Any questions, just ask...

  • 3 weeks later...

Questions here are usually welcomed but do expect some opinion to come along with the answers.

I find these posts quite an enlightenment and sometimes they make me consider other matters - e.g. while in parts (if not all) of Europe : 18 is the age for casinos and legal drinking and at 16 years it is permissible to enjoy an alcoholic drink while having a meal.

How does Celebrity handle that?

A 16 year old will not be served alcohol under any circumstances, in any ship venue, on any itinerary. Age 18 is the youngest age for alcohol consumption on Celebrity ships, even if a parent requests alcohol for a younger teen.
