Does anyone dislike Cove Balconies?

Have had both. Many standard balconies, 1 suite, and a cove twice. Love the cove. Especially on a dream class ship with the wrap-around deck issues.

Thank you to everyone for your opinions. I learned a lot from you. The price between the Cove and the regular balcony were not that different for the cruise I was looking at. After I did this post I looked at images/pictures on Google. I do like privacy and I'm not sure I want a cabin overlooking the Lanai with the hot tub, chairs and restaurant. I like seeing the ocean. I'm not so worried about not having glass as it often gets coated with brine and you can't see through it, esp. on the lower decks. It might be an advantage to have rails. I do like a fully covered balcony, so I'd probably like the shade. I might miss looking up at the stars, but I guess I could go to an upper deck if I wanted that...or to get some sun. I'm kind of liking the look of the Cove balconies. Thanks for your input. Now I just have to decide.

The views are not that limited. Yes, there are boats overhead, but they aren't right on top of you, you still need to lean forward to see them. After being in both balcony types, the cove was the greatest. We were fortunate to be on the side that seemed to be on the pier side at ports. Made people watching easy while still not being in direct sun. Not everybody is a sun worshipper.

NO.

They are bigger. They are closer to the water. You can sit out in the rain. or when it is hot and you have a sturdy cover. You have more privacy.

Main Deck.......close to MDR. Casino. Shore desk. Main Office Medical office. When elevators are crowed..one or two flights of stairs ( calorie killers) and you are where you want to be.

We have had two. I would chose them over any other kind of balcony.

You are right, I'm apologize.... But giving opinion is one thing, passing someone else's opinion as fact is another.

You are correct they are somewhat closed in, but while sitting you can easily see out, and you get shade from the life boats above. They also offer great privacy that the other balconies do not. Also the regular balconies you cannot look over and see the water. Back to privacy, you have to be very picky when choosing a regular balcony since anyone can look onto many of the balconies from I think promenade deck.

Always had balconies and can definitely look out or over and see water. It is after all an ocean.

HI all!

I just had cabin 2349 on Breeze & loved the cove as did my CC cabin crawl visitors. I liked the shade, privacy & the ledge you could put your feet upon or your drink. Not being a sun worshipper it was great for me & I used it much more than the usual type of balcony.

Try it you'll probably like it just watch out for the location.;)

We have had a cove on Breeze twice. If you pick a cove far forward, they are quiet. We will be going on the Breeze again in Nov.-she has spoiled us and has become our favorite ship-and we are going to try a balcony on deck 7 or 8 all the way forward to avoid being over the wrap around deck. The only thing we didn't like about the cove is my husband loves to stand on the balcony at night and look at the stars. Because of the lights by the overhead life boats, the view of the sky is not very good. I also like to sit on the balcony and soak up the sun if I don't feel like the noise on Lido and that doesn't work in a cove. We enjoyed the cove but are now going to try a different balcony on the Breeze.

Funny how the only negative comments are from those who never had one, or was in one in a super storm. I think that speaks volumes as to the reasons for their popularity. I wish more folks didn't like them, so the price would be even cheaper. I love the cove balconies, particularly because most of the balconies on the Dream class ships are looking down at the lanai as opposed to the ocean where it meets the ship. I'm also the kind of person that loves the sounds and smell of the ocean, so the closer I am to it, the better. Being on the Main Deck forward puts you very close to the theater and guest services, so I like that being that we frequent that area alot. And as for being loud, please! I prop the door open at night so that we can hear the crash of the waves even more!!! lol

Privacy is big for my wife and I, so we like that folks walking along the lanai cannot look up and see us as we sit. As for the boats overhead, I think of them as a shade producing canopy, which just adds to the intimacy and privacy of it all. Plus, we don't have to worry about kids trying to peek around the partition from the balconies next to us.

We just got off the Breeze and had a cove balcony. It was awesome! So close to the water, a lot of privacy, and only got sun early morning or late afternoon depending on which way we were going. We never had water splashed on our balcony. We were under the galley, only heard noise one time early in the morning when I got up to use the bathroom. Fell back asleep very fast. I loved sitting out on the balcony, it was so private and peaceful. The only noise I heard from being that close to the water was the waves. Did I say it was awesome! Seriously! There was lifeboats above us but didn't affect the view. Only way I knew they were there was if I looked up. I would book another in a heartbeat. Only way to make your own opinion is to try one.

I almost prefer the Cove to an Aft balcony. On the Breeze, regular balconies overlook the promenade if you are on Decks 6-8. I am so glad that the very last balcony cabin available for my sailing was the Cove that I booked. Nothing to overlook except the ocean.

The Valor aft was nicer for sure but on the Breeze, there's no way that I'd book a regular balcony on Deck 6 overlooking the promenade (especially Fat Jimmy's with all that smoke).

If you want a balcony and can't afford one on a higher deck then so be it

Wow. Actually I can afford any of the cabins. The cove was a delightful surprise that I booked a week before my cruise and it was wonderful. If it's the poor woman's cabin, then just call me broke. I think I'll try to book it every time going forward.

Certainly wasn't directed at anyone lol, just I can feel the cyber tension...lol....Thank you for your opinion on them as I never had one before, I was commenting only on what I observed as a bystander....and as I said, I never spoke negatively on them as I had not had one before, just pointed out why I enjoyed reg balcony....all depends on usage. As someone with a disability I sometimes need to get away from the noise on deck but still enjoy the sun and I have always been able to see through my glass. But sounds great for those who enjoy the shade, also I had a spa balcony last and never found privacy an issue. The only real non-private balcony I had was the captains suite on the Liberty, and even then you would have to want to look at me :D lol......but I can see how they would be more private in a cove and appealing.

Ah, another person who has never had one, had a passing glance at one, never set foot on one, but can tell you how bad it would be. reminds me of what a waste of $50 is for FTTF by those who have never used it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I certainly never spoke negatively.....just stated why I personally enjoyed a reg balcony as a balancing view. I would never impose my views on anyone, nor put anyone down for their view.....this is suppose to be a place for info, and I gave my input but not negative thats for sure....as you can see im sure op will enjoy either way...its a vaycay :) Can't we all just get along as I got a lot of useful info fro this site, but can do without the sarcasm.....wasn't called for, just another opinion, whether right for for your usage or not... :)

If you don't like smoke then a cove might be a problem. It seemed that they trapped the smoke from the neighbor worse than the open balconies on the higher decks. Depending on the ship we either get a spa balcony or a balcony on Lido deck. Much more convenient than being down on deck 2.

Nice pictures, but not a dream class ship. The lanai on deck 5 goes all the way around so a balcony on 6 or higher will not allow you to look over and down at water. It will however allow people in the whirlpools on deck 5 to look directly onto many of the higher balconies.

Never noticed the smoke, but makes kinda makes sence.

But I disagree with lido being more convenient, I would actually argue that the cove I had at 2262 was more convenient than lido.... It was right off of the main elevators so it was less walking to get to lido than many of the lido cabins, just have to ride up. But it is closer to the casino, MDR, guest services, shops, theater... And the thing I hate most, when getting on the ship from port I HATE having to deal with people with those elevators, so it is up 2 floors worth of stairs and your back.

We had a cove balcony on the Dream and I must say that I LOVED IT! I've only cruised a few times but on all of them, save 1, we had a balcony. We were in Cabin 2279 - it was a quiet area near the elevators. Being at the lower deck the elevators would always be empty so we didn't have problems going up to the Lido and upper decks. Going down we normally would take the stairs as it is not so bad going down than it is climbing up. The location was perfect at ports because we didn't have to fight for the elevators when disembarking and getting back on board. We just simply took the stairs one flight up and voila! - home away from home! I loved being so close to the water - to hear the waves crash and sometimes even feel the spray of water. There were no storms when we cruised, though it was in August - and the lifeboats above provided shade at the hottest of days. Having those lifeboats above me didn't make it feel closed in at all. I loved the little ledge that the balcony railing provided. I would place my drinks, food, etc on there..just so convenient. This is my experience and my opinion of the cove balcony. Of course, I don't know if it would've been the same had we sailed in a storm and they had to seal the balcony like those experienced by other posters. Edited by ondeegoh
