Welcome to Cruise Critic.

I would encourage you to do a few things.

-Visit the Princess Web Site because often they have a lot of useful information that can help you as you prepare for your cruise including suggestions for clothing.

-Go to the roll call section of Cruise Critic and then click on Princess, and then the name of the ship you are on and then scroll down to find your roll call. This is where others who are on your cruise post and you can find a lot of valuable information including getting ideas on shore excursions.

-Also be sure to check out the Princess Board. There you can learn a lot by reading and also you can post specific questions.

I hope that you enjoy your first cruise as much as we did because if you do this may be the first of many cruises for you.

Cross pack your luggage..half your clothes in one suitcase with your wife's and the other half in your second suitcase. This way if they stagger delivery of your luggage you can get started unpacking. Bring a change of clothes in your carryon for the first evening'a dinner in the vent your luggage isn't delivered in time. Make sure you have all OTC meds, sunscreen, etc packed as it's very costly onboard. Keep all pertinent docs , camera, jewelry and anything of value in your carry on. As soon as you enter your cabin, put them in the safe.

You may want to bring some small bills for tips or small purchases. While you can always get change at Guest Relations, sometimes towards the end of the cruise they run out of lower denominations.

Read through your daily activity sheet and highlight the activities you plan to attend. It's easy to forget the time and place with so much going on.

You will get lots of responses, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Happy Sails!

Bring a photocopy of each prescription (medictions AND eyeglasses). Have your doctor identify the meds by generic names as brand names may not be available overseas. Hopefully, won't be needed; but, better to have and not need . . .

It would be wise for you to notify your bank and your credit card companies that you will be traveling outside you home country, if you think there is a chance that you might use your debit card to get additional cash or use your credit card for purchases while in ports.

Ruby is a very nice ship so look forward to having a wonderful cruise!

Be sure to check out the IC (International Café on Deck 5) which is open 24 hours and always has tasty treats. :)

It is never too early to start gathering things up. I have started with a few things and just add to it as time goes by. Besides the obvious clothing items here are a few things I just can’t leave home without.

We bring lots of one dollar bills for tipping.

We tie bright colored ribbon on our suitcases to help us identify them. Bungee Cord - Brought a bungee cord to secure a door that we wanted to keep open from banging. We once had all of our cabins next to each other and had the doors to the balconies opened up all the way. Our door kept banging.. so this helped it to stop.
