molme Posted June 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2014 The last few week the CB has docked at 1am on Sat mornings. Does anyone know why they are doing this? Is there mechanical problems that they are working? If they are docking that early that means that the casino is being closed early too and they are losing money. We will be sailing on her in Aug for a B2B and if this continues we will have two early dockings.
AKman2495 Posted June 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2014 It might have to do with port traffic. There is a narrow opening for ship to enter and leave. So, they may have to allocate transits at these hours.
Cruzingal#9 Posted June 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2014 We just got off of her on June 14 and the Captain came on the announcements during dinner the last night and said that we would be docking at 1:00 am due to maintenance work. There were signs on the pier by the ship stating there were divers in the water both when we boarded and when we disembarked. We never noticed anything during the cruise. It was actually kinda neat watching us come in at night. The lights along the shoreline were beautiful.
custompcsys Posted June 21, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2014 It wasn't the last few weeks, it was 2 consecutive weeks in late May / early June. The first week was due to repairs on the bow thruster (thus the need for divers in the water) which delayed her departure by 8 hours. The cruise went on with no change in itinerary and did not miss or shorten any port visits. The second week the reason was not announced, but there was no disruption to departure times or ports. I don't think its happened again since. If history is any guide the worst thing that's going to happen is your gambling may be cut short by an hour or two....not sure what time the casino closes on the last night anyway :)
Hoosier-Cruiser Posted June 21, 2014 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2014 The captain said that more maintenance was needed so we got back just before 1am. She was in early on June 14th, as she was already at the do I when we got into town at 3:30am. I did notice a odd vibration when we were traveling at speed. That may be what they are trying to resolve. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
fishywood Posted June 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2014 It wasn't the last few weeks, it was 2 consecutive weeks in late May / early June. I don't think its happened again since. https://pevweb01.broward.org/Public/PublicMovements.aspx She was alongside at 12:31 this morning, and as of now (5:30) is still there and penciled in to leave at 7:00. Official Port Everglades schedule for next week still reads 6:00 to 4:00 but I would not be surprised if Princess has a standing order for a pilot to have her in at 12:30 until whatever issue no longer needs attention. I doubt Princess is bothered about the few bleary-eyed gamblers they may lose on the last night--the ability to charge chips and slot tokens to your account is cut off by midnight even with normal arrival time--but what would cost them is higher fuel costs in speeding up to arrive five hours early; as they have done it repeatedly it is likely a non-factor. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app That vibration was there when we cruised the CB over New Year's and was still there when we were on her over Memorial Day. It's definitely worse than anything we've experienced on any other Princess ship and we were hoping that drydock would have resolved it, but it sure didn't. We were aft both times so we could feel it in our cabin and also way up in Horizon Court.
crackupforlaughs Posted June 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 22, 2014 Just curious, as we were on her in Feb. -- is the noise you heard kind of a loud groan? We heard several loud "bonks" and "groans" coming from the shops and the lounge where bingo is played. I was told it was the stabilizers. We did have 12 foot seas those days. Hoosier-Cruiser Posted June 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 22, 2014 No groans or other noises. Just the vibration. It was much worse between Saturday and Tuesday (eastbound to St. Thomas via Princess Cays) than it was on the return leg. Not sure what caused that, but it was so bad in the Palm Dining Room on the first sea day that it made me a little nauseous. The water glasses also had a constant ripple in them. cindep Posted June 27, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 27, 2014 The early arrival (1:00 a.m.) has been so divers can continue work each week on the thrusters and some other maintenance issues. This early arrival does not affect the itinerary in any way. Just got off on the 21st of June, and overall had a very nice trip.
RickyD Posted June 28, 2014 #12 Share Posted June 28, 2014 On Caribbean Princess now, Capt. told us at dinner time we would be in port by 1am, for thay could put divers in water to work on thruster. Thay have had divers in the water at two of our ports

RickyD Posted June 28, 2014 #14 Share Posted June 28, 2014 We may be in before 1am. Statroom TV shows 36 more miles to port.
Rare azbirdmom Posted June 28, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 28, 2014 Wow, that's been every week but one since we disembarked on May 31st that the CB has arrived back in port at 1 AM. I just hope it doesn't break down at sea on one of the upcoming voyages - they seem to have had thruster and a host of other problems since dry dock. kendon Posted June 28, 2014 #16 Share Posted June 28, 2014 Better to be in FLL a few hours early than a few days! Hope it's fixed by my July 19th cruise...

sunsetme Posted June 28, 2014 #18 Share Posted June 28, 2014 some public toilets and elevators have been inoperable for some time, you would think they would fix them by now.
HMSDingy Posted June 29, 2014 #19 Share Posted June 29, 2014 Disembarked today & although there were ongoing repairs throughout cruise never bothered us. Had a great cruise with a wonderful crew. True she's showing her age but the ship was ok for us. The ship's main mast was hit by lightening just before sail away & the scanners were hit. Our departure was delayed as they continued with repairs. We also had a medical emergency that further delayed our departure.

ourturn Posted June 29, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 29, 2014 Just off her this morning. Never noticed any vibrations. Occasional public restroom outage but there were a lot of young people on board so maybe?? There were notices to please not flush the brown paper towels. We really had a very pleasant cruise I would not hesitate to sail again tomorrow. In Princess's defense they were constantly working on her. Varnishing, painting, chipping paint etc. Someone told me that they replaced the night stands and bedside lamps in their cabin. On a side note, the children on this cruise were extremely well behaved. We never had an issue with them at all. Totally different from a Spring Break cruise. The only elevators I noticed to be out of order were on deck 14 & occasionally deck 15 mid ships, but these never bothered us because it was only one elevator out of eight on each deck. The ongoing maintenance work never bothered us nor was it in any way inconvenient. I have reservations regarding the children, not all were well behaved. But the greater problem was the young adults who would constantly take over the pools, diving with drink in hand. The ship's DJ would play dance music early afternoon & this would add to the party atmosphere. For this reason this will be our first & last cruise we take late June. kendon Posted June 29, 2014 #25 Share Posted June 29, 2014 I never mind all that maintenance going on while I'm on the ship. It's great to see all the effort going in to keeping the ship up. Three weeks to go!
