Port Everglades Security Question

The security at the port is not the same as at airports in regard to having liquids in your carry on baggage. You are allowed to have liquids in your carry on bags with no limit on quantity. All bags will still be screened in xray machines though and are still subject to a search by hand if needed.

Whatever would be packed in your checked luggage with the airlines obviously would be fine, as would anything allowed through airline security in your carry on. Your checked luggage would continue through an x-ray and (usually) canine inspection at the port. Your carry on would of course go with you through similar scanning devices as well.

The cruise line has no limitation on amount or type of liquids (other than alcohol) going through their security but keep in mind that if you are flying whatever you have with you, either checked or as carry on, will have to get to the port first via airline security.

Note that the cruiseline will have a list of prohibited items (such as travel irons, etc.) that are not allowed on board that may be OK though through checked baggage with airline security. Those items are subject to removal from your bags (with you present) once on board by ship security.

The reason for the liquid ban ON AIRPLANES is so you can't make a bomb. On cruises, they know you will have access to your liquids...and you are allowed to bring any and all liquids, except those banned by the cruiseline...specifically (in most cases) liquor/beer. You may bring shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, sunscreen and all other personal liquids/gels.

Remember that cruise security is NOT TSA, and has different goals. TSA is looking for stuff that could bring down the plane, while cruise security is looking for: 1. things dangerous on the ship, especially things that could be a fire hazard. 2. liquor, and other items that they don't want brought on, since they want to sell these to you.

Thanks! We are actually flying in the day before and when we get to our hotel we plan on removing the sunblock and hand sanitizer from the suitcase and putting it in our fanny packs so just wanted to make sure no issue going on the ship with those items. Glad we will be ok. I appreciate everyone that responded.

As everyone said, no problem. In fact on RCCL you can bring 2 bottles of wine per cabin. It's much easier to bring these as carryons as it will keep you from being sent to the "naughty" room. Same with water. If you choose to buy water or wine to bring on, we find it just easier to carry it on. That way if they want to inspect the bottles it's done right there. So don't worry about liquids. Really the most common banned items seem to be knives, irons, some steamers, etc.
