gizmo911 Posted June 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) I find inside cabins to be a bit difficult when getting up to start my day. It takes a while to get going because you don't visually know it is morning and also type of room can make you feel a bit closed in. I have for the last 9 cruises booked OV for that reason, however I will be once again cruising in an inside cabin soon. If you have experienced the same problem with inside cabins, have you come up with some ideas /solutions on how to make room feel/seem a bit less closed in or have indication that it is morning? 2Shoes2Go Posted June 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2014 I leave the TV on the ship cam forward channel. I turn the volume off at night; usually has music playing. When the sun comes up and the sky lightens, it shows on the screen. Also, carry a small ceiling projection clock so I always know the time. Interiors can be quiet, cool and nice! Still love OV or balcony for longer voyages. Five nights max for an interior for me. The prices can be irresistible for interiors.

gizmo911 Posted June 24, 2014 Author #6 Share Posted June 24, 2014 It's a 8 day cruise and the offer was just so unbelievably low that I could not refuse. I have another cruise on another line 2 months after... so upgrading was not an option. Thanks for some "real" suggestions, will definitely try on this cruise. mommom of 7 Posted June 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2014 One of the television channels on board has the bow camera. Putting that on will give you a sense of time. Some leave that channel on all the time because as the sun comes up the picture on the screen gets brighter, almost like having a window. Here I thought I came up with something new with the TV. Have been using that method for years. Also like the Lido deck cam. Char

I do the TV thing too on the deck camera channel. You can also try turning on all the lights in the cabin--bedside lamps, desk lights, overhead lights, etc. And order a pot of coffee on the room service door hanger the night before. Lol. snc_cam Posted June 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted June 24, 2014 We only use the cabin to shower, change, sleep. Rest of the time we are on deck somewhere or in port. At night, we leave the bathroom light on and close the door. The door is not airtight with a crack on the bottom. Lets just enough light into the room. Or we get an interior porthole room or a 4J. But again, not in the room much at all. Steve
OCruisers Posted June 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted June 24, 2014 We use to book our teens in an inside cabin across the hall from us. They joked the TV was their window to the world. :D Also, if sleeping in the same bed all night is not important to you, you will be amazed at how much roomer an inside cabin seems with the beds made into a twin configuration. ;) LuLu
IPlayWithString Posted June 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted June 24, 2014 Hubby actually prefers inside cabins simply for the fact that there is no window and it IS so dark in there once you turn off the lights. He gets migraines and when a really bad one hits, he needs to be in a room that is as dark as he can possibly make it. I also like the fact that with no windows, etc..there's no light coming in to wake me up too early if I've been out too late.
bigbro501 Posted June 24, 2014 #12 Share Posted June 24, 2014 How bright is that channel at night when going to sleep? Does it illuminate the whole room or only a faint light?

Have to agree love the dark room for a nap whenever I want and also use the TV for the window on the world. Shaded Lady Posted June 25, 2014 #15 Share Posted June 25, 2014 I'm not particularly claustrophobic (yet the thought of getting stuck in those tubes on the slides has me hyperventilating! :D) so I've never had an issue with an inside cabin. As others have suggested I normally turn the TV on to the outside camera and turn all the lights in the cabin on... Of course, even if I'm awake in the morning, I'm not really... not until after that 2nd cup of coffee anyway! So maybe the early morning fuzziness keeps that sensation you mentioned at bay! You save so much and give up very little Any day on a ship (interior room or not) is better than a day on land :D:D:D:D:D On our most recent cruise, the very first day I had to make my 10 yr old (who was so far beyond exhausted we went straight into Crankytown with stops at Irritated Ave and Meltdown St) take a nap right after muster. We'd been up since 1 am and he NEEDED a nap. Within 5 min of me shutting off the lights, we were both asleep and stayed asleep until DH came to wake us up an hour or so later for dinner. mclizzy Posted June 25, 2014 #18 Share Posted June 25, 2014 We love the dark rooms too :D but we do set our alarm on our phones (it still works in airplane mode). And we check the TV cans while we are getting up and ready. DH gets up to use the rr every night at land or sea so he is known to use the flashlight on his phone or leave the rr light on with the door shut. ksy8384 Posted June 25, 2014 #20 Share Posted June 25, 2014 We usually sleep with the tv on anyway. I always order room service to be delivered first thing in the morning and use it as a wake up call. Then turn on the lights and up the volume on the tv. It works for us. I like an inside cabin but to each his own. Hope you get some helpful tips.
Oppalopa Posted June 25, 2014 #21 Share Posted June 25, 2014 By booking a ocean view. Yes my TA only charges 50 dollars more for a Ocean View. I feel it is well worth it. I feel safer in a room with a window since I travel Solo. I know that is not rational. :)
sjcruiser Posted June 25, 2014 #22 Share Posted June 25, 2014 Congrats on getting the OCV. I like to sleep in total darkness, but like the Balconies for being able to get up if i can't sleep, or first thing in the morning to view the ocean and while pulling into port. The light from the tv is too much light for me to sleep with on, but I also take a travel clock with a blue or green display that often ends up face down or in a drawer. grooveynurse Posted June 25, 2014 #23 Share Posted June 25, 2014 After years of only cruising in balcony rooms, we sailed 6/1/14 in an interior. It was a special configuration though, you can look up room #6293 on the Freedom as I don't remember what category it was called. Anyways the layout is different then most interior cabins. There was zero noise above or below us. The casino was one deck down, elevators were close by to get to Lido. I was nervous, but we LOVED it. The location was perfect and I would book an interior again in a heartbeat. We used the TV like others have suggested above. We both enjoy sleeping in the dark, but I brought glow sticks with us. The first night I placed one on the bathroom door handle, just so we wouldn't bump into anything....but we only used it the first night, thought it was too bright the rest of the nights. My advice for getting an interior is 1.) Get midship 2.) Get one floor above promenade, but check what is below you if you worry about noise from below. 3.) Get a room close to elevator. I have some great tips and I think will be ok.
