Will be in St Kitts in mid September..our first visit to this port. We aren't interested in spending any beach time. What private tours can you recommend. I have looked at Thenford Gray but it includes the beach. Thanks so much.

A very nice island tour would be good. We have done this twice. It is very easy to get a taxi and build a custom island tour. Find out what you want to do before hand and when you get off the ship, you can find a taxi to take you. What I would suggest is to go to the fabric factory, its an old plantation, very interesting to look around, botanical gardens etc. Then go on to Fort Brimstone, stop for an hour to tour, there is a small admission fee, I can't remember, maybe 5$ pp? Then go on around the island to see the Atlantic coast. There are a few spots the taxi will stop with view points, and of course the locals have small tables/shops set up.

When you go to the taxi area right off the ship, they are very organized and will know exactly what you want. You can get together with a big group in a 15 passenger van, a car with one other couple or a medium size group. We have done it with one other couple and once with 2 other couples. When the taxi driver found out my husband is a professional photographer, we stopped at places he thought would make a nice picture. That really added to the experience. I believe both times we paid between 30 to 40$ pp and the tours were about 5 hours.

Not a private tour but the Sugar Train is something you might enjoy. :)

When we toured with Thenford we didn't want beach time, either, but preferred a rain forest hike. He arranged for another wonderful gentleman to meet us at the Romney Manor stop, and take us on a rain forest walk while the rest of the group went to the beach. It was an easy walk, more a stroll in the park rather than a real hike, but we enjoyed it. The 78 year old woman with us was able o do it, with assistance from our wonderful guide, who stayed right with her. He returned us to the ship at the end. I'm sure Thenford could arrange something semi-customized for you, too, if you ask.

Check out tours organized through Clay Villa (the #1 St Kitts site on Tripadvisor). They have tours with no beach time or will help you put together a custom tour from their list of sites in St Kitts--reasonable and responsive.

We did Clay Villa's "Best of St Kitts" tour this past March and thoroughly enjoyed it!
