What would you want Carnival to do to accomodate

This is exactly what my earlier post talked about. You want to sail on the Dream Class ships - Dream, Magic and Breeze. Areas like you discribe are set up on deck 5 midship and above the lido deck at the main pool. Sheltered, shaded (if you want or not on 5). Tables, chairs and bar service. Would could be better!

 

Sounds perfect. I would like to see pics of the area if anyone has any to share. I really like the size of conquest, but I would consider those others if it was worth it, comfort-wise.

I do not understand that they do not aloud e cigs. That would give the smokers a little consideration without bothering the non smokers....

FIRST OFF to ALL cruise lines cig, e-cig, cigar, pipe smokers are NOT low class or second class people we all pay a pretty amount of same penny's as anyone else on these ships this is what really ticks me off how any smoker is treated. ok with that said YES bring back the cigar bars with a REAL bar and music , 100% agree allow E-Cig anywhere on ship including the balcony like some cruise lines are doing now but not in dinning room and other eating areas. Keep casinos 1/2 - 1/2 as it has been but make the casino bar half as well the non smoke area most of the time is never being used make it HALF for smokers so we have somewhere to sit to have a drink and a good ecig or smoke. OUTSIDE this is where I am so mad over they got these areas on top deck cram into a small space 12x12 last 2 ships I've been on. We deserve the same treatment as anyone else on ship give us a bar, lounge chairs to sun bath, nice seats like everyone else has, tables , bar runners every 2 mins like everyone else has on ship. It should be near the main pool or right directly by pool and stairs. My 2 cents after Nov. cruise Im not sailing with any one until these rules change and get fixed with E-smoking its no odor and we are blowing out O2 get over it.

I think they should determine the percentage of smokers on a cruise who would book balconies. Then assign one side or section of the balconies to smokers. I read somewhere it's only about 20%. So I suggest one side of the ship and reserve the aft cabins on that side. That way no one is bothered by the smoke except for other smokers. This seems very simple to me, not sure why it hasn't been implemented.

I am not a smoker, but I used to be and I think smokers should get to sit n their balconies and fully enjoy them.

I don't think there is any hope of being able to smoke on balconies again. Its time to let it go and hope they can come up with a solution for more comfortable public smoking areas. In case they read these threads, let them see some really serious concerns and ideas for changes. JMO

I saw someone posted about the Cool lounge on Splendor. I'm familiar with that lounge and yes it is nice to drop by for a smoke. However, on one of the other smoking threads (sorry don't remember which one cause there are so many) someone attached a like to the goccl site and also effective 10/9th the Cool lounge will become nonsmoking. Grrrr. But at least on Splendor there is smoking outside on the deck above Lido both mid ship and aft.

The problem I had with the cigar bar on my Princess cruise was it was too smoky. No smoking on the balconies = more smoking in the bar. It was kinda like 4 people smoking in a car with the windows rolled up.

I think that everyone supplied outstanding suggestions. We smokers all know it's not a healthy habit, but it's one we have, and we want a carefree vacation just like non smokers. A week on a ship that we enjoy, where we are not hassled. And a place where we can go and not hassle non smokers. (and if you read the whole thread you can see that s0ome of their high and mighty member felt they still had to put their two cents in even though we asked nicely for them not to :rolleyes:.

So, please Carnival read this,

bring back cigar bars

make larger areas on the lido for smokers

seperate the smoking areas on the casino so that we dont bother non smokers

dont put smoking areas near doors where we tick off nonsmokers or bother kids

create a serentity area for smokers (we are not all heavy drinkers or love loud music)

and since you think so few of us smoke, create a few smoking balonies??? please let me give you my money.

The main reason balcony smoking was so important to me was to minimize the nasty confrontations one can have with the extreme anti smoking vigilante types. I am a very considerate smoker and even when I have a balcony, I do not light up when I know there are people sitting on nearby balconies who might not smoke. I have never heard any complaint.

On one particular cruise, I had 2 separate women go out of their way to confront me in designated smoking areas. One particularly nasty women yelled at me for several minutes, insisting that I "put it out right this minute" and making sure I understood just how disgusting she thought I was. Frankly I was so intimidated, I ran out of there as fast as I could. I am a very shy and sensitive person, and this affected my mood for the whole trip.

What I really want are a few convenient areas that are separated enough that these types of confrontations will be less likely. A comfortable lounge area on the lido deck with a bar and some wind protection would be a good start. And some similar setup on the promenade deck. I have no issue going to an outside area or a designated lounge inside as long as I don't have to travel several decks to get there.

With so many new ships being built, I don't see why they can't design a separate balcony section that has enough separation so as not to incite a riot among the anti smoking zealots.

I find the entire Carnival policy odd. I suspect if the truth were known, it's been a reactive patched together series of decisions rather than a cohesive thought out policy.

 

I smoke cigars. For a long time, Carnival had cigar bars on board their ships where we poor souls could go to enjoy a cigar, meet other cigar smokers, and be by ourselves without bothering anyone. I've always tried hard not to smoke my cigars where it would bother anyone. The cigar lounges made sense, both for me and non-smokers.

 

But a small group of non-smokers hated this. The thought of someone lighting up a cigar was more than they could bear, even if it was in a designated area. They complained, and the next thing I know, cigars were banned in the cigar lounges.

 

So although I much preferred smoking my nightly cigar in a cigar lounge, now I was forced to light up on my balcony. Not by choice. I was pushed out there by those responsible for shutting down the cigar lounges.

 

Now, Carnival has decided to ban smoking on the balconies as well.

 

All I want is a place to enjoy a cigar in relative comfort. It appears Carnival is utterly incapable of providing this. So to NCL I will go. NCL provides small but nicely appointed cigar lounges on most of their ships, with excellent ventilation that severely limits smoke and odor. That's all I ask for. Just a place I can be left in peace without bothering anyone.

they should of just set aside 1/4-1/3 of balconies as smoking balconies. Instead of a blanket ban.

My experiences color my ideas on what they should do. I was on the Liberty. We had to go to one small area on Deck 10 in the wind to smoke. There was a small roofed in area by the door to go into the elevators (near Cagney's entrance) and we all congregated there to try and stay out of the wind and the rain. We had about 5 chairs and no tables. There was 2 instances of setting the trashcan on fire because they provided one ashtray for an entire ship of smokers.

 

We would spend our evenings in the Casino (we would do that smoking allowed or not). You couldn't get any kind of drink service at the smoking half of the bar because it was always so crowded with people smoking you couldn't get to the bar. Every smoking machine in the Casino was usually taken up by non-smokers which was a pain in the ass.

 

I do table games. Most seats at the smoking table were taken up by non-smokers. The 2 times I wanted a cigarette out of consideration for the other folks I would vape my e-cig instead of smoking real ones.

 

What I would like to see:

 

A covered area on the outdoor deck in case of inclement weather and preferably with some sort of wind break. Everyone is discussing fire hazards and the biggest one IMHO is smoking on a VERY windy deck. Perhaps have one small outdoor bar be 1/2 smoking like NCL does on their Lido deck.

 

If they are going to try and limit smoking in the casino to active players, give smokers the right to have non-smokers removed from the smoking machines.

 

If a non-smoker sits at a smoking table and complains the pit bosses should remove them from the table.

John Heald just posted on his facebook page that the head beard is looking at ways to make smoking areas much better on Carnival ships and that an announcement would be coming in 2 weeks. THat backlash didn't take long.

As an occasional cigar smoker (especially on cruises) I'd like to see a Serenity-like area on deck that is designated a smoking area. Someplace that is reasonably shielded from the wind, with at least part of the area covered against rain, and with drink service.

I think everyone has posted some really good ideas, but I would really like Carnival to invest in a good ventilation system. There's no reason why any room should be smoke filled. Even as a smoker, I find this horrible. We have the technology!! Some of the inside smoking areas (including the casino bar) were already bad and will be even worse when you add the smokers who used to smoke on their balconies. Investing a few bucks will make these areas more enjoyable for smokers and non-smokers.

I don't know. I heard that there were enough cancellations of balcony cabins after the change that they are looking to appease folks now. Have no idea of how true that information is as it was TA gossip

I don't smoke ciggs or cigars but boyfriend does. While on the Valor back in May the cigar bar was very DEAD, except when they had Karaoke. I can also say the time I spent on our balcony I never smelled smoke from our neighbors (both sides were smokers). Only reason I knew they were smoking was because we were talking and leaning at the railing (of course they were seated and we had aft balconies). But back to my point I loved the cigar bar, reminds me of my grandfather. We even went to the "Stoggie & Whiskey" tasting and were the only people in there, mind you we went towards the end and the waiter that was there said we were the only ones to come in the entire hour of the event. Glad I went too, found a great whiskey.

I'd suggest what Norwegian does (or at least did) on Sky. They had an enclosed smoking room. It pleased smokers and non-smokers.

 

Of course, Norwegian is now also banning smoking on balconies as of November 2014 so who knows if they will have other changes.

What folks need to keep in mind is that the smoking "ban" is not as much about accommodating non smokers as it is a way to cut costs. Both in cabin cleaning and in the liability insurance rate that the cruise company is paying.

 

My wife is a smoker and I enjoy a good cigar from time to time. I believe a dedicated smoking lounge is in order, always has been. And yes, carnival cruisers are not known for over using the library- so why not convert it to some revenue generating space.

 

Not to those advocating unlimited use of e-cigs. The jury is still out on the second hand effect of the vapor and I for one get headaches from breathing in some of the flavored concoctions that folks are using to make their nicotine ingestion more tasty.

My husband is a cigar smoker (the most hated of all smokers, lol) I'd like to see Carnival have cigar lounges or bars again...something enclosed, with good ventilation to clear out the smoke. But a place where he can have a drink and smoke with others who share the habit, and mostly a place where the rest of us don't have to smell it as we walk by.

The Norwegian Gem has something along the lines I am thinking of, a room sized humidor, with comfy chairs and bar servers who check in often, fully enclosed with glass walls and door and ventilated. And standing right outside, you never even get a whiff of the cigar smell.

Please no. The Serenity Deck isn't large enough to have two sections and keep one half smoke-free.
