We will be on the BA in October. We took the same cruise last October. We took the excursion to Atlantis which we didn't feel was worth it. This time, we plan to basically take a cab to Atlantis not book an excursion and just spend a few hours in one of the pools and then time in the casino. Has anyone ever done Atlantis this way.....any advice?

You can't spend time at the pools without paying an excursion. Maybe you should consider the British Colonial Hilton..nice pool, walking distance to the port and good food. but minus the gambling.

I have been to Atlantis twice and taken a cab ,they are all waiting at the entrance to the dock and will take you for a reasonable amount.

In order to save money we followed advice we found here on Cruise Critic and booked the Comfort Suites Paradise Island - for 4 people we get tickets to Atlantis and save quite a bit of money. We can also use the room to change if we want. However when we check in they will also let us check out which saves time when returning to the ship.

Atlantis is a waste if going on your own. The only things available are the casino and extremely over priced shopping. You can purchase a day pass...but its expensive, too.

When we go on a cruise that stops in Nassau, we now get off the ship early, do some shopping, then get back on the ship and enjoy a nearly empty pool.

Previous posters are correct - you can cab it and hang out in the casino, but that's about it. You can also buy passes there for the pools and slides, beach, and or aquarium (prices vary based on what you want to do). It's about $130 to hang by the pools and slides.

Cabs are $4/person. We did this when we went in January. My parents wanted to check out the casino. My husband and I just walked around the hotel/shops a bit. We knew we couldn't go to the beach area and were okay with this.

Food was extremely expensive. I know you are at a resort, but still we thought $18 for a grilled cheese sandwich was a bit much. Needless to say, we ate lunch when we got back on the ship.

If we ever return to Nassau again, I would do what was mentioned by other posters -- a quick look into shops and then back to the ship or buying a pass at the Hilton.

I have been to Nassau like 10 times I think and been to Atlantis twice. The most recent time was in April aboard the Disney Dream. We did not want to pay for the excursion off the ship either so we followed the suggestions of those on these boards and did it on our own kinda.

When we disembarked the ship, we told the taxi drivers that we wanted to go to Atlantis. There were 4 of us and the van held like 8 or 10 so we waited for about 5-10 minutes for them to gather up enough people coming off the ship...no big deal. It cost $4 per person and we gave him a $20 and told him to keep the change.

Upon arriving at the Atlantis, we asked to be dropped off at the Coral Towers entrance and asked to see the "Majestic Tours" representative. There is a separate room set up with this outside tour company right there off the lobby and we paid $70 per person for the "Atlantis Beach Day". It included full use of the beaches/chairs towels and lunch at one of 5 counter service restaurants, admission to the "Dig" and full grounds to walk around in. It did not include the water slides or pools.

If you want more information on Majestic Tours, you can search for them on the web. Just be advised that they do not list their Atlantis tour on their website. But if you simply contact them through their website, they will send you all the details. They even sent me sample menus from around Atlantis along with the pricing. Very helpful.

All in all Family of 4 cost $20 taxi to and from so $40 all together for transportation. Then another $70 per person that included lunch. That was still significantly cheaper than the excursions.
