The only Alaska story I have is someone asking about the currency exchange rate.

 

On the Key West board recently, there was a question about whether the poster would need an International Roaming plan to use their cell phone there. And I once had a letter I had written to a friend in New Mexico returned by the USPS because I hadn't put International postage on the envelope.

As a former New Mexican I never had it happen to me, but it happens often enough that New Mexico Magazine has a long running column called "One of Our Fifty is Missing" where New Mexicans share stories about people thinking that New Mexico is a foreign country:
