LiseD Posted August 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Ok you all said to ask anything....I noticed that one of the lines has a beer tasting cruise on one trip next October. (9 Day River Cruise from Vienna to Munich) My husband and I are currently opening a micro brewery next to our 20 room inn. SO....this trip sounds really interesting...includes visits to breweries, talks, tasting, etc The BIG problem is the date doesn't work for us. October is the busiest month we have at our inn (fall leaves changing) and no way we can be away that long during that time. Here is my question.....would this still be a good route to look at and maybe we could still go visit some of the breweries on our own?
Rare Host Jazzbeau Posted August 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Does March 31-April 7 work better for you? Or December 14+? Then check out AmaWaterways: http://www.amawaterways.com/beer-cruises
4774Papa Posted August 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2014 If you want real beer tasting, go to the Oktoberfest in Munich at the end of September, ending first weekend in October. I like the Spatenbrau or the Hacker-Pschorr beers/
G.M.T. Posted August 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2014 For real beer tasting and enjoyment, avoid the Oktoberfest (it's OK for tourists and drunks. Drinking a liter or more of a beer specially brewed for it (Festbier) is not my idea of beer tasting in Bavaria. One should go for quality and not quantity. Best places to start are the wonderful Munich beer gardens. In Bavaria there are over 40 types of beer and over 4000 brands. So take your pick. Good points, still there is something special about the Oktoberfest parade and drinking beer in a huge tent with people singing.
