Anyone ever cancel their "free casino cruise after final payment"?

Hi all...I was just wondering if they can really charge you the "prevailing rate when you booked" or do you just lose your full payment (upgrade fees, etc.). In my case there is a big difference since we upgraded to a suite...I wanna get insurance from a third party vendor, but don't wanna insure for the regular price of the cruise...just what I already paid...any thoughts???

When I have booked the free cruise they advised the trip insurance and said they can charge the full rate

Sorry again, no personal experience. I have taken 2 "free" cruises. But have always bought the trip insurance from Carnival. I mean, com'on, it is a "free" (very reduced) cruise, so just break out the wallet and buy the trip insurance from them. That way there will be NO PROBLEMS when you cancel.

Maybe try calling Carnival and get a reduce cancellation charge if you cancel and they have a chance to re-book the room.

Now, if from some reason you have to cancel and can't get the insurance. Take your chances. Either way, I think they have every right to charge you the full cost. You booked the cabin that will go unsold if you don't show up and they could have made the money off of that cabin.

So, best situation- get trip insurance and cancel.

Negotiate a reduced cancellation charge,

or just cancel and take chance on getting charged full fare.

Sorry couldn't be more helpful.
