Breeze 8/10-8/16: A death, a lost kid, and a Whole Lotta People....

Recommended Posts

I only cruise in the fall. The winter months are too cold (or breezy in the Caribbean) and the other months, there are too many children on board for my taste. I am not kid-friendly, at all. Hence, my cruises tend to be in the fall.

As for the OBC, I thought about it. I don't believe the initial OBC for a price drop. Carnival is pretty inflexible after final payment. That is why they have so many different promotions and so many different rules. If you were a platinium or gold (or whatever the highest level is), maybe (big maybe). But just a random passenger?? Naw buddy. . .try me again.

As for getting $300 because you were awaken by the in-room announcemnts. . . . they DO NOT pay cash for lost of sleep. The entire ship is awaken. That is the whole purpose. You may get an apology and that is it. Not even a cheap bottle of champagne.

I have been on two cruises where there was a need for early early morning in-room announcements. It awakens the entire ship. It is meant to wake everyone up. Once, after the announcement was made a few times, security started to do a cabin by cabin search for a female passenger who had "disappeared" and her husband couldn't find her. (Turns out she got drunk in the casino, went to some other man's cabin and when the announcements were made, since her new bedfellow didn't know her name, he didn't know to wake her up and tell her the entire ship was looking for her.:D:eek:). Anyone who had managed to sleep thru the announcements were awakened by security who proceeded to search each cabin, deck by deck. thoroughly. It happens. Carnival doesn't compensate for that.

Again, Naw buddy. . . tell me another.

I thought I remembered the OP creating a thread about the OBC after final payment. But now that I think about it, I think it had something to do with being charged a fee for something or losing an original OBC and getting it back. I dunno. It was a while back. Why would she make it up?

As for the missing kid and the OBC, the ship had an obligation - a duty to search for this passenger. The inconvenience didn't warrant anyone receiving an OBC as these type of things can happen on any type of vacation. As I said in another post, I would have taken on worrying about this kid above all. And given the stuff the OP listed that this crew had to deal with that she knew of (deceased passenger - surely the family needed some attention, the party of the passenger that was left) I wouldn't have troubled anyone at guest services for almost an hour over it. I wonder about this Ana chick. Doling out that kind of OBC to one passenger. How many others she did it for. Guess the folks made a huge issue of it. Maybe she was a supervisor but that's no small pocket of change for losing a little sleep. I'm all for speaking up. I'm also for picking my battles. Especially on vacation where time is precious.

The Passengers. Not watching their kids, throwing trash and dirty glasses on the floor in the elevators, leaving food around and not cleaning up after themselves. People are just pigs.

I couldn't agree more! This seems to be the attitude of society in general these days, not just on cruise ships. Absolutely NO RESPECT for anyone or anything anymore. And don't even get me started on cruisers who refuse to let others OFF of the elevator before they enter - geez! (Here goes the blood pressure..............)

Thanks for the review - I laughed out loud more than once! We've sailed on the Breeze's sister ships, Dream and Magic. We plan to sail on the Breeze soon.

Ana Maria is the Manager of Guest Relations, she can do whatever she wants if she feels it is in the best interest of Carnival. On her badge it says she was "Team Leader of the Year", so she must be doing something right.

The funny part is I'm a total germophobe, so I was chasing everyone around with my can of wipes every time they had to touch something nasty that someone else left behind. The worst was a young dad?? changing a dirty diaper with the kid laying bare butt on one of the smoking sofas. No towel, no changing pad, nothing, just a butt and a dirty diaper. Fabulous.

After that, we pretty much started to pack up, the cruise was ending. I was surprised that on Breeze you had to have your bags outside the door by 10:30, on Royal they always give you til midnight.

SO we packed up, and in the morning we were off by 9:30am. Disembarkation was WAY BETTER than Embarkation.

We spent the day at Hyatt Regency Pier 66 because our flight wasn't until 7:30pm. And then we went home!

HI PDC. You posted a couple months ago looking for a day room in Fort Lauderdale. Was this the 66 in fort Lauderdale, room cost, and did you call before the cruise? Thanks for any details, sounds like you enjoyed the cruise.

Loved your review! I'm getting married this November and the husband and I will be sailing from New Orleans since we're both natives of Baton Rouge. We've both been blessed with new jobs, with a lot better pay (won't he do it! LoL) and are already planning our 1st anniversary cruise, jus having a hard time deciding between the Breeze or sailing out of N.O. again.....I'm a Carnival gurl but would also like to try something different and we're considering Royal Caribbean, I've heard a lot of good things about Oasis and Allure but have you sailed any other RC ships? And do you a favorite one or recommendations? Also I'll be sending a friend request on FB, I'd really like to see pics from the RC sailings 😊

If you did in fact get the OBC and $300 I commend you BUT twice on a long cruise 9 and 10 days) we were terribly inconvienced by major hurricanes and ALL of our ports on one cruise were changed from san juan, St. thomas and st. maarten to PC, nassau and freeport (and the funny thing was that the hurricane was coming to these ports since all three were boarding up windows and preparing and ALL excursions were cancelled, the only thing we had to do in PC was a shuttle to Walmart and the beach the employees used) Our 10 day cruise was ruined and when I went to GS what did I get...a big fat ZERO, they then sent us via email 10% discount on a future cruise withing the year. The other cruise was a RC one, schedules for KW, Cozumel and Belize....they cancelled KW and Belize added Little Stirrup (I am not a beach person) and once again I got ZERO, except for some refunded port charges. I had two cabins on that cruise and they really couldn't give a darn.

just saying you are incredibly lucky.

On my cruise where the lady was "missing." No one on the Lido Deck that morning during breakfast was upset about being awaken. Not one person complained or seems put upon. That was not the general attitude of the masses. Most people were perplexed and worried as to what could have become of this woman. Word around the deck that morning was the video was already checked and the powers that be knew she had not fallen off the ship. They even broadcast her picture on the jumbotron. Security was walking around handing out a printout of her picture (from her sail and sign card). It was not the time to capitalize on an unfortunate occurrence. It was only after it became known what happened to her that it became a laughing matter. And, . . . the couple (she) was NOT put off the ship.

I can't imagine anyone being more concerned about missing sleep than a missing child. No matter the age or circumstances.

I too have a big mouth and can get freebies like the best of them. However, I find it hard to believe that Carnival would part with close to $800 worth of OBC for a cove balcony cabin with 3 people in it for a 6 day cruise. The GS would have looked at their cabin and their ship account prior to dishing out $300 in "sorry you didn't sleep" money. They would have known that an additional $300 on top of the $400+ they were already given would have made that cabin not only a complete loss but at almost $800 in OBC for nothing other than good customer service, the cabin would have been costing Carnival money. Carnival does not do that. It would have to be an extremely special situation. Not just an unhappy, sleepy camper. Hahahahaha!!!

but then again, if someone says it on the Internet, it has to be true.:D

Nice pictures though!!

I called at 8am as soon as we arrived in port the day of our stay. My first call was Embassy, they were booked. Second call was Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in FLL, they had availability. I paid full price, $119, but I didn't care, it was worth it. We had the room from 10am-5pm when we headed to the airport. Coulda stayed til the next day, it was a regular overnight rate.:)

But well worth it.

Mind you, I did not like not having this set ahead of time, but it all worked out. I had a plan B, a place that did day rates, but it looked kinda gross.

Let me start by saying I love love love NOLA, and wanted to take a cruise from there, but my free mileage was on Virgin and they don't go there from here!!:( So I was stuck with Florida.

I have been on many Royal sips, some many times. I loved Oasis the most, but I'm also a huge fan of Navigator and Voyager. Not so much Freedom.

don't feel bad. In reality, you got what everyone else gets. . . A "sorry about your luck" and then a "deer in the headlight" stare from GS. Hahahaha!!! No one gets $300 for another passenger's emergency and loss of sleep. . . . .

I enjoyed your review very much! And I did also learn a thing or two, as I always do from reviews on these boards. Nothing offensive to me, enjoyed it all. Thanks for taking the time to do your review.:) One thing I do know is that I wont miss the chocolate buffet next time.:D

So raise your hand if I offended you??:p

Ghetto?!!? I can't believe how racist you are!

:D

J/k I absolutely loved the review! It wasn't too long (some people are a little too verbose for my tastes), it included pictures (a must in my book), and it was funny and interesting. What more could I want. Can't wait until my wife gets home to show her the cowboy who missed the boat. That was hilarious (and I'm really glad you caught it on film).

Good luck. I had a great time there, we had room service and watched 2 pay per view moves (Godzilla and Need For Speed). It's a good thing we had a nice room, because that's the day the rain and thunder and lightning decided to show up!!

It stopped right before our flight, thank God!!!

PhoenixDawgCruising, I just LOVED your review. In 10 days we'll be on the Breeze and your information adds to our anticipation.

As for all the OBC - you go, girl! Like you said - for the people not believing you - this doesn't make the money less green and they just wish it was them getting all the cash.

AS James Brown once asked, How You Like Me Now??? Of course this could just be any old $300, funny how I still have it on me...

Sorry I don't have the .35, I gave it to my son....

What I loved about Breeze:

1. The ship. It's beautiful. I have heard people wanting a comparison between Breeze and Oasis. Well, now I can do that. While Oasis still has the edge for me, Breeze is pretty darn close, and way less money.

Where Oasis wins:

The Boardwalk.

The food, particularly the buffet. Windjammer is great, Lido was horrible!!

The diving and water shows. Nothing compares, and I don't even like shows.

Where Breeze wins:

The waterslides. Oasis has non, just Flowrider.

The ropes course. I liked it better than the same ol rock wall.

The Cove Balcony. I even liked it better than my Aft extended balcony.

2. The Crew. They are great, and will do anything to help you.

3. The pay restaurants. I loved both Bonsai and Cucina del Capitano. I don't mind being charged a bit for better food.

4. Blue Iguana. I didn't care for Guy's, Johnny Rockets is way better!

I agree about Guy's. When we were on the breeze last January we thought we were sea sick. We figured out it was the burgers that were making us feel not quite "right". We didn't get sick to the point of vomiting but had that feeling like you were going to. we Thank you for writing the review! It was fantastic and got some great ideas for future vacations. Thanks again!
