tracyvansmith Posted August 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 20, 2014 So now it's tax & gratuities? Hmmm... Does it still require all adults in the cabin to purchase? The following restrictions apply: • Package must be purchased for the entire duration of the voyage – it is not sold on a per day basis • CHEERS! is only sold to guests 21 years of age and older and agree not to give to minors • Each adult assigned to the same stateroom must purchase the package • Only one drink at a time may be ordered using CHEERS! - sharing is not permitted • Guests may purchase a round of drinks for themselves and friends. One drink will count towards the CHEERS! package and the remaining drinks will be charged to the guest’s Sail and Sign account • Package allows for up to 15 alcoholic drinks per 24 hour period (6:00am-6:00am); once the limit is reached, the guest will not be served any additional alcoholic drinks • Package allows for unlimited soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktail • Carnival reserves the right to refuse service for any reason • Applicable state and local taxes will be charged to the guest folio when this package is used within US waters. The tax is based on the particular state’s tax structure and the cost of the individual drink purchased (not the daily package rate). For example: if the drink price is $5 and the tax is 10%, the guest’s Sail & Sign card will be charged $0.50 for tax. This applies to all US ports (embarkation home ports and ports-of-call) • Due to Texas State laws, CHEERS! will not be offered until the second day of the cruise for voyages departing from our Texas home ports. In this case, please know the daily rate will be based on the full cruise duration price but only charged from day 2 forward. Guests may purchase drinks in the usual manner. • Package not available for purchase on cruises sailing from Australia • Package is non-refundable

ryanpatricksmom Posted August 20, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2014 Honestly, I'm not sure if it ever really mattered if they announce the fact that the price could change or not. I would imagine that so long as you are quoted a price before you actually make the purchase, that's all that matters. I think the fact that they don't allow the purchase prior to sailing has always suggested that they want the ability to adjust the price; I don't think that being out there with it, and offering up that they will adjust seasonally is very smart. Truth is, we never know until we board what the cost of a drink will be. Could be that you purchase the Cheers package and find out that a lot of drinks are now $10.25 It's a leap of faith, I suppose. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and try it in October. I'll watch over the next few months and see how many times they vary from the published price prior to my cruise in March and make my decision for that cruse with the benefit of time. As I mentioned before, a smart business plan would be to allow cruisers to buy at a fixed rate ahead of time, and only adjust the price based on the sailing for those who have not prepaid. Unfortunately, I don't run the world, so don't hold your breath for that one.

Hey Tina Posted August 20, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 20, 2014 So on a five night out of TX am I paying for 4 days? Day 2 through the last full day, or am I paying for disembarkation day also?
marimojo Posted August 20, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 20, 2014 On Royal you can start drinking immediately in Texas. You do not have to wait until Day 2. In May we got on the Navigator, went to the pool bar to meet friends and have a drink, before we sailed, and it was covered in our drink package. I don't understand the Texas rule - you have to wait for Day 2 to use the package but you are charged for the amount of days sailed -do you think they charge you for Day 1 even though you cannot use it? Our next cruise is just a 4 day cruise. So, we pay $45 a day for 3 days - or 4 days? We really liked the drink package on Royal and I wanted to do it again on our next cruise. MasterMason Posted August 20, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 20, 2014 They can do the same thing with published cruise rates. I think it's all but settled now. As it's been said before, Carnival can raise individual drink rates at any time. This goes for ALL cruise lines. I don't think that these rates will fluctuate like everyone is fearing. I'll know soon enough, but it's the last thing I'm worried about, because even a cruise without liquor is better than a week at home with some. Our next cruise is just a 4 day cruise. So, we pay $45 a day for 3 days - or 4 days? My reading of the rule is that you are charged the daily rate based on the length of the cruise, but only for the days you have the program. So on a 7 day cruise, you pay for 6 days at $37.50 (the 7 day rate) not the higher 6 day rate.

aprylstar Posted August 20, 2014 #21 Share Posted August 20, 2014 I hear ya!!! I still love Carnival & am booked to sail the Dream in Feb, but I did love the drink packages on Royal. They had a beer & wine package that was cheaper than the other packages & all their packages include bottled water. That being said, if the pricing on this new package sticks, 37.50 is a great deal for a 7 day. It does stink though that it can't be used on HMC & LSC... Thank you all. hlb76 Posted August 20, 2014 #25 Share Posted August 20, 2014 I've never used this or really looked into it much, honestly. So now each drink is taxed (pop and booze) not the package as a whole? Is juice still included? We are debating trying in Oct but not 100%. I will get my use out of it the hubby not so much.
