Casinos on ships

Just got off the Freedom and it was a wonderful trip will write a review shortly, but a question for the group. Normally when I am on a cruise and go to the casino I put in my room card and take money that is charged to my account. When I win (rarely) it gets put back on my card and at the end of my cruise I cash it out. On the FOS you could not do that. You had to put in cash and at the end you go a ticket to cash out. I asked the casino about that and they said you could take money against your room key but there was a 4% charge. This caught me off guard since I don't carry much cash with me. Does anyone know if all the RCCL ships are doing this now? I am going on the Oasis in Nov and was wondering if I should carry more cash. Actually this saved me money since I didn't have he cash to put in the machines. :D

You have to put money or a ticket voucher into all slot machines on Royal Caribbean ships. And to take money out in the casino on your sea pass the surcharge is 5% now.

Edit: I would carry enough cash that I can afford to lose in a given day.

Good luck in the casino on Oasis.

I've been cruising for quite a while and always had to put cash in the machine. Putting the card in the machine was simply to track my play. In the past you could use your card to get cash at the tables without a fee, but now they do charge the service fee.

This is not something that Royal Caribbean's casinos do. I understand that this may be how other cruise lines' casinos work, but it's not been true for Royal Caribbean ships in my experience.

As others have said, it's a cash/ticket-based system for slot machines onboard Royal Caribbean ships.

Not sure about other lines but RCI has always operated like this - except you used to get quarters instead of vouchers in pay outs. Once upon a time, you could get cash on your set sail pass for free but, of course, people started to cheat the system so a charge was instituted.

Nowadays, put cash in, and if you win anything or decide to leave a machine before you've used all of your credits, you get a "ticket" out. You may go to the teller window and cash that at ANY time. You can stick that money in your pocket or do whatever you want with it.

If you get cash from your onboard account, you are charged a fee, so you've already lost. Not a good idea.

Bring the CASH you can afford to lose for gambling. If you win, great! If you don't..oh well, you were prepared to lose it!

One addtional note. Do use your seapass card to track your play as it is possible you will accumulate enough points for free money or prizes. Depending on how much you play you could even accumulate enough to join club royale. If make it to club royale you can get cash with no service fee. The sea pass is not useful for cashing out, but does have benefits. I am sorry I do not know the thresholds that get you into club royale. Another benefit with club royale is based on your play, you either get cash for use on your next cruise, or an equal amount that can be applied to your next cruise. In addition there can be some very good percentages off your subsequent cruises. Again I do not know their formula for calculating this but I do not play huge amounts of money and yet have gotton some great benefits. I am faithful with inserting my seapass card each time though.

You need to average about 300 points every day or approx. 2100 points on a 7 night sailing to be eligible for the Casino Royale club.

I know I'm old school, but I still bring traveler's cheques. I hate carrying cash, especially large amounts, and the ATM fees on the ship are crazy expensive. This also helps because if I feel the 'casino bug' grabbing hold of me, I can't just reach into my pocket for another $20- I have to physically leave my seat to go cash a check. This helps me decide if I reeaalllly want to throw that twenty in the machine or not. :p

For invitation to Casino Royale VIP, you will need to do one of the following.

Slots $3 spin minimum

(the 2000 pts, gets you $40 cash back or Key chains, T-Shirts, baseball caps etc..

You will need more play than 2000 pts to get invited to join.

Note: if you play slots between 09:00am-11:00am you get double pts.

Blackjack $50 per hand

Roulette $25 per spin.

If you meet this criteria, you will probably get an invitation for VIP.. Which is for life.

Once a member there are many nice perks:)

You happen to have the craps criteria?

i didn't qualify on the last cruise. They said my avg bet was 120 but apparently two hours a night at that rate ain't enough.

Sorry have never played craps, but that amount sounds like it would be enough.

Typically when speaking to the Casino Managers, they are looking for around 4hrs play in the Casino each day.

Not exclusive to any table game or slots.

There maybe someone else who has craps experience and are VIP members

That can give you a more definitive answer.

They want 3-4 hours of daily table play which includes craps. Next time, maybe bet less $ and see if you can play longer than 2 hours. Sometimes that hard when you have a good shooter, you just want to, press your bets.

Wising you *Good Luck* on your next cruise.

Thanks. Yes, I guess I'll have to press less and just manage the winnings better.
