Tables for One

Doing a three night cruise alone on Carnival Spirit. Don't want to dine with different people every night and don't want to be relegated to the buffet. Will they allow a table for one in the dining room at dinner? For just three nights I am happy to eat alone.

You can go on fixed dining which means you be allocated the same table every night and can sit with the same people (if they turn up). Otherwise go on anytime dinning and ask for a table for 2. You might have to wait a bit. Depends on the allocation.

I ate in the buffet for all my meals bar the lunches at Fat Jimmys . There is a great selection of foods offered , the salad bar was usually quiet , I found the salads really fresh and tasty. The deli offers a different menu for a nominal charge as well.

I have been on cruises where there have been people eating solo at a table. I always feel a bit sad for them that they are alone, so your post was good to remind me some choose to dine that way.

If we know someone is a solo, we ask if they would like to join us on occasions such as foraml night as most people like to dress up and socialise but do not take offence if they choose not to.:D

I've been there on formal night sitting eating alone as none of my table companions turned up. Well some did but like were like 45 minutes late. The waiters just fuss over you and get your food pretty promptly. I do get the pity looks. But I don't mind. I get in and out and off to nab a seat for the show. :D

Sarah, they may not be looks of pity, but looks of envy. We have been roped into being sociable with people that were heading off to dinner at the same time, and there would have been envious looks from me if I saw you by yourself not having to sit through some of the waiting for dinner and wishing it would be quicker. :)

 

We have also made some lifelong friends the same way, but while sometimes it can feel awkward by yourself, I think there is more realisation that people want to enjoy a nice meal, but don't always want to be tied to taking up the extra time it takes when you sit with others.

 

We have good friends that never want to go to dinner with a bigger table than two when they cruise. We often eat out on land with them, and maybe more people, but they are on the cruise to totally unwind, and while they are not anti-social, they don't have an interest in meeting new people. I think it is good to hear on these boards that people are happy eating by themselves. You still get nice food and nice atmosphere. Why not?

I have always booked tables to share and I don't mind sharing at all. The only thing I haven't done solo was go to one of the speciality restuarants. Thats on my to do list next cruise. I've always gone with other people. But I wish I had tried it out a couple of times on my own.

Thanks for the info, folks. I'm certainly not anti-social and usually find people to enjoy a chat and a quiet drink with afterwards. I'm not single (married for 29 years, work has kept my wife off this one) so not looking to meet up with other singles. I just enjoy the peace of a nice meal with a good wine and on such a short cruise taking the time to introduce myself and do the small talk for three nights with three sets of new faces just doesn't seem worthwhile.
