My Take of the Carnival Conquest (review)

I sailed the 2nd leg of the Conquest repo last November from San Juan to Miami. It was fantastic!

I was on Empress, midship, in one of the "special" 1A cabins (great cabin). No sewage smells encountered anywhere.

The casino staff was wonderful, specially Elina.

I didn't think the ship was dark at all. As a fan of Impressionist art, I thought she was one of the nicest of the Farcus designs (generally not a fan).

Sad to think that people need to have someone else spray their hands with sanitizer. There are sanitizing stations all over the ships. And, of course, if people would simply WASH THEIR HANDS properly, it would be a moot point. I'm certainly no germaphobe, but I act like one when I cruise.

I don't do Anytime Dining (tried it once and didn't like it). I wonder if people who do so treat it more like going to the buffet (very casual) but they get better food and get to be waited on. I didn't notice inappropriate dress at all on our cruise in the MDR.

I actually prefer smaller ships (yet have 2 Splendor and 1 Freedom booked). My only "complaint" was that there is no Serenity Deck on Conquest. I still managed to find semi-quiet spots up on the Panorama outside the upper buffet dining area.

Oh well. Everyone's experience is different, and mine was nothing at all like yours. Sorry it wasn't up to your expectations.

To be sure travelers won't let this one persons opinion sway them to cancel or not

book this ship. We were on her last Nov. and had a wonderful experience. The only thing lacking was a serenity deck and we cruised before they were in place so it was no biggee. I personally think a cruise is what YOU make of it. Go in with a mindset that everything is not to par and you can fulfill that wish. Opinions are like butt holes; everyone

has one; me included!

OP sounds like you had a pretty crummy experience. What a bummer. Thank you for taking the time to write your review.

Any word about the ports that you visited? Thank you

Don't get me wrong.... actually I had a GREAT cruise...:)

All I was doing was making my opinion known about the ship. ;)

As for the ports

I have written reviews on each

Cozumel - Paradise Beach

Grand Cayman Royal Palms - Wrote a nice review so not sure why the Mods deleted it. :( Or they might have moved it to an appropriate location on the forum - I dunno.

I see some of you would like to have the Serenity Deck added.

IMO they have enough lounging areas throughout the ship.

Being the pools are extremely small' date=' they should upgrade and add an additional pool.

Especially if they plan to keep the Conquest in the Caribbean.;)[/quote']

All of that space where Serenity should be is just wasted. It wouldn't take a lot to throw some padded loungers and stuff up there. I don't think another pool would work without a total overhaul.

I disagree that there are plenty of areas to lay out. On a sea day, I had to circle numerous times to find a single lounger and they were packed so close my arm was practically touching my "neighbor". Not relaxing at all to me.

Not adding Serenity makes no sense to me.

We were on the Conquest in January 2014 and we did notice the Sunflower lighting being out on one side

Carnival requires regular walking inspections of their ships by the Captain and Hotel Director. If the life boats are only working at 50% capacity like the lighting in this fixture we're in deep trouble!

Ohh my, now I am definitely scared. Due to go on the Conquest in May 2015. Taking some new friends with me, gee I hope ship is not as bad as it sounds. Cause it really sounds bad.

Believe me, nothing be be scared about, it's NOT that BAD!

Just needs some TLC that's all. ;)

Go and enjoy, you'll have a good time....:)

Thanks for your review. But I am sorry to hear these things about the ship. I like to cruise from Port Everglades, and hear that Conquest is moving there in 2015 to replace the Freedom. Hopefully there will be a drydock soon, to do some updating, and hopefully to add a serenity deck. Did you notice that big sunflower light? I think it is outside one of the dining rooms, and some reviews lately mention that the lights are burnt out in the sunflower; so just wondering if you noticed whether that has been fixed or not. Thanks again for your review.

I watched a youtube video yesterday of someone's Conquest Cruise from Sept. 7; in the middle of the video they pictured the conquest and it looks like it was all lit up again.
