emileg Posted September 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2014 Due to problems with the port side azipod the Summit has returned to Halifax for further determination of the extent of the problem. We have been told that we will remain at anchor for another hour. At that time we are scheduled to dock. No information is yet available as to when we might set sail to our next port, Sydney, Nova Scotia. There are absolutely no problems with power generation. However, because we are within the three mile limit, the casino and all bars except one are closed. The cruise director, Ken Mills, is doing a great job keeping us informed as more information becomes available.

emileg Posted September 25, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted September 25, 2014 Lots of bars in Halifax... Good luck! We were originally told that we could get off the ship and be back on board by 11:45. However the port authority changed its mind. So far, we have had an excellent cruise with great service, food and entertainment.

We are awaiting updates once they can assess the problem more fully after we dock. As it is now 10 p.m. Atlantic time and I have a cold, I will go to bed now and report back as soon as I can. Phxazzcruisers Posted September 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 25, 2014 So very sorry. At least the port you will miss is Sydney. There is really nothing there except the giant fiddle on the port. If I had to miss a port, I would definitely pick that one. I hope everything gets fixed and you have a great cruise. antsnanny Posted September 25, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 25, 2014 Hi Neighbor, were from Kinnelon NJ. We did the same cruise last week and it was fabulous. Rare uktog Posted September 25, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 25, 2014 Currently onboard Summit, we were an hour out of Halifax when the show was interrupted to say we had to return to port for technical reasons. Several hours of announcements but basically It's a port pod issue We are now missing our next stop They are negotiating with the authorities to re dock in Halifax to assess the issue So far on board cannot fault the guest communication and the way the staff gave kept going even if they cannot now serve drinks in some bars due to customs regs

Sloop-JohnB Posted September 25, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Well if there is a Maritime location to be holed up in it is Halifax... Nice city (Mr Sloop's fave in Canada) and lots to see & do and decent Bars, Restaurants & Entertainment. There is even have a Casino. Halifax & surrounding area is an easy place to spend 2 or 3 days. Highlights there: Citadel - Museum of the Atlantic - Pier 21 Museum - Halifax Harbour - Peggy's Cove - Swiss Air Memorial - Titantic Memorial / Cemetery - Mahone Bay - Lunenburg As for what you are missing: Sydney is a small city. Highlights in the area are Fortress Louisbourg and Cape Breton... Both great but better in Summer than Fall. Hopefully the problem with the Summit is small and easily taken care of and you can be back on track shortly. Cheers! warmwinds Posted September 25, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 25, 2014 We were just on that last cruise, had an aft cabin, and I swear I said to my husband the wake looks "different" from other cruises we've been on. Wow. I'm really sorry you are missing Sydney - we went to Baddeck to the Bell Museum and really enjoyed our day. But there was lots in Halifax we missed so another day there would not have been the end of the world, either.
Rare uktog Posted September 25, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 25, 2014 He still has not docked woken up to find ourselves in the same spot as last night. So even though I'd thought of plans for day 2 in Halifax unless we can be allowed to tender in .......

DiamondDiva Posted September 25, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 25, 2014 We also were on last cruise and noticed more vibration and sounds like "skipping" in the engine starting mid-dinner time during the second week of cruise. That continued off and on the rest of the last week, most noticeable at dinner. Spouse, table mates, and officer I asked all told me it was "normal" and not to worry. Hmmm.... Anyway, I hope all is fine now and you are on your way to a great cruise. Sorry you had to miss Sydney, tho, as we did a very enjoyable ship "excursion" right in the terminal of a Cape Breton musical experience with three very talented local musicians. Rare uktog Posted September 25, 2014 #20 Share Posted September 25, 2014 Captain has just confirm well done to the engineers worked through the night solved this issue, so we miss just one port and are on our way to Charlottetown and will be there on Friday as planned Letter coming in due course, expect it will explain what is being "reimbursed" though technically not due any other than shore ex costs and any small port fees Very happy to be sailing on as planned :D

We did the one before you and it was awesome. I would agree with others that you missed very little in Sidney. Im sure Captain Leo and Ken, amount many others, got very little sleep last night, if any. Hopefully you will have beautiful sea day today!
