Casino winnings or losses

How did you do in the casino on board?

 

I gamble for my cruises w/ Casinos at Sea. Been on several cruises now and I keep getting offers of free cruises from them for tournaments. I sometimes lose my shirt and sometimes win. Worst was the Getaway which was like a cemetery in terms of the sound in the casino. I think because the ship was so new there were just no jackpots paying out. You just didn't hear the machines making their jackpot noises and the few people that did hit were only getting small payouts of under a couple hundred dollars.

 

One of my best was on the Sky in 2013. I had planned this as a budget cruise, no real gambling budget and then decided to take a shot after all. Took out a thousand dollars to gamble with and hit a machine for a thousand within the first half hour or so. Went to dinner and came back, sat 2 machines over and hit for a thousand again. Both were older style slots that turn reels instead of the newer digital ones. I gave a little back but for the most part I think I left with about 2500 out of the 3000 so it was a nice trip.

 

I've had good luck on the Epic as well, but generally I find the first and last nights to be best for gambling on the Epic. I don't know if it's because of the people playing on those nights. Last Epic cruise I hit for 600 on the way into the piano bars to see some friends we cruise with. This time I'm cruising solo so i'm going to be more careful I may not gamble at all or I may end up down there the entire week. I have yet to see how it goes.

I play a variety of things, blackjack, 3 card poker, penny slots, quarter slots but mostly video poker and video keno, on the breakaway I hit several $200 and $400 wins on keno and had a lot of fun doing it. There was a lady sitting next to me one night and kept downloading $500 at a time playing video poker $15 a hand (3 face vp) she was going through so much money I was kinda scared for her lol. She finally hit $2,000 JP but I'm sure that didn't even being her back half way. There was another lady on a penny slot machine she was playing 40 cents per spin and hit $4,000 JP on it. She was on that machine for the remainder of the cruise. When I had seen her the next day after hitting it I asked her which machine it was exactly she wouldn't tell me lol but I eventually saw her sitting at it because she was always there.

On NCL, I have seen 7/5 Double Double Bonus at the $.25 and $.50 levels. They jump to 8/5 DDB at the $1.00 level.

Here's my take:

 

1) we've all known some to hit a large jackpot. Obviously, that's a rare event.

2) I only play table games that minimize house odds like craps, blackjack or hold 'em.

 

Some ships have a few different rules that increase the house odds whether it's the payout on craps, payouts on blackjack and things like that. We all know that machine odds are horrible, so I don't play them.

It's rare that I have a losing cruise because I stick to live Texas Hold 'Em Poker against other humans. It's an easy game because most of the other players are drunk, don't know the game, come in underfunded, or just play to play and not to win.

 

On two occasions I've won enough to pay for the cruise but usually I get enough to defray the cost.

 

My favorite experience was on a Blackjack table. I was down a little bit but another player could do no wrong. He was betting high and had tons of chips in front of him. Then my wife comes into the casino and fetches me for dinner and upon my return, the dealer said that he lost it all back in front of his sobbing wife.

You will find the vast majority of cruisers win big in the casino.

That's why the casino is the biggest money maker on the ship.........

The past cruise I probably lost about $150 total, but the one before that my partner won $850.

 

My one question.... do your reward points rollover from one cruise to the next on NCL?

Thank you for bringing back this thread,first time going on Epic end of this month..did ok on Carnival broke even or was up some on last 3 Carnival cruises ,was wondering about the slots on Epic sounds like they may be about the same,have used a lil advice from friends ,the usual type of stuff,does seem to help some..;)..never have gambled at a land based casino ,so cannot compare
